Abstract

The objective of this study is to explain the reason of flouting maxim used by governor candidates of North Sumatera in election debate 2018.  The research methodology used in the research is qualitative research design.The data were analyzed by using interactive model of qualitative data management and analysis namely data collection, data condensation, data display and verification and conlusion. The findings of this study revealed that the reasons reason for flouting maxim because the candidates gave implicitly response to hearer in their response. Each candidate gave the implied meaning in their response because candidates knew that they were as a rival in this debate in order to get a chance as a Governor in North Sumatera.Keywords: Debate, Governor Candidates, Flouting Maxim.

Abstract

A number of ecological linguists, using critical discourse analysis, have found that between culture, language, and biodiversity has a correlation. One of them is Suku Anak Dalam or called Orang Rimba. Suku Anak Dalam is a semi nomadic ethnic group living in National Park of Bukit Dua Belas, Jambi Province. The language is indigenous and endangered so that it must be documented. The speakers of a language will lose their language; even language is often regarded as a symbol of tribal identity or national identity. In the midst of the widespread use and dissemination of foreign vocabulary, some regions still maintain the cultural vocabulary that characterizes the region. This research was conducted for the reason of collecting the lexical items from Suku Anak Dalam language into a dictionary. This research and development aimed to find out and examine the cultural items needed by dictionary of Suku Anak Dalam language. Keywords: Suku Anak Dalam Language, Designing, Software Dictionary, Indegeneous language

Abstract

Language is a reflection of speakers. A person can guess the identity such as the origin, character, or behavior of the interlocutor of the language he uses. Gender affect the use of language, both oral and written language. As an essential skill in learning English, writing involves the application of grammar and sentence pattern, vocabulary, or diction and cross cultural understanding. It can be said that writing ability is someone capability to express their idea in the form of written representation. The objective of this study is to investigate the linguistic form of narrative text written by male and female students. The data of this study will be gathered by sentences in narrative text written by male and female students of Senior High School about their experience. The use of language features proposed empty adjectives, hedge, intensifier, hypercorrect grammar super polite form, tag question and emphatic stress, even though the characteristics of color words and question intonation have not been found in the characters’ utterances.
