Abstract

Abstract

In Islamic schools, the teaching of Chemistry and other sciences as well must go beyond an integrated approach to embedding the spiritual and the scientific awareness. Despite this, there remain situations where science is taught without considering its religious value. This research intends to develop interactive e-modules integrating Islamic values with STEM for the reflective and whole learning experience focused specifically on buffer solutions. This research employs a mixed-methods approach using descriptive quantitative and reflective qualitative methods to measure the effectiveness of said e-modules. This includes the cognitive, affective, and reflective aspects of 30 students from XI IPA class at MAN 2 Pekanbaru. Cognitive data were obtained from a post-test conducted on Quizizz, while affective and reflective data were obtained from questionnaires and open-ended questions. The students' post-test scores (M = 81.00), which significantly exceeded the minimum passing grade of 75 (t = 2.167; p = 0.0386), were indicative of the positive outcome of the intervention. The affective data also evidenced students’ spiritual awareness and emotional engagement in lessons greatly (M = 4.2; SD = 0.9). Students' reflective results were able to demonstrate the concept of a buffer system in relation to the balance of God’s creation and vital elements in life. These findings confirm that the integration of science and spirituality through interactive e-modules can build a holistic, meaningful, and relevant learning character for 21st-century education.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to empower the community in Kualu Nenas Village through the diversification of pineapple waste utilization as raw material to produce Eco-Enzyme (EE) solution products that are economically valuable and environmentally friendly. Interviews with the community revealed that pineapple peel waste had never been processed into products. In addition, piles of pineapple waste were found to be dumped directly on the ground, polluting the environment. This program was attended by 30 participants in the socialization stage and 15 participants in the practical training stage. The methods used consisted of socialization on the importance of pineapple peel waste management and training on Eco-Enzyme production with direct assistance. The satisfaction survey results showed that 90% of participants felt that the material was presented clearly and was easy to understand, while 77% felt motivated to produce Eco-Enzyme independently. In addition, 100% of participants claimed to have gained new knowledge about waste management. From an economic perspective, calculations show that each household can generate profits from producing Eco-Enzyme solution, which can be used as floor cleaner, fertilizer, and soap mixture. Thus, this program not only successfully improved participants' knowledge and skills but also has the potential to increase local community income.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how an ethnoscience-based durian acid product-development project functions as a PCK-driven creative learning environment for prospective chemistry teachers and to analyze creativity across elaboration, originality, problem solving, and synthesis. A Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with an embedded mixed-methods approach was employed involving 68 fifth-semester pre-service chemistry teachers at the University of Riau. The intervention integrated Project-Based Learning (PjBL) stages—orientation, planning, implementation, and evaluation—within Plan–Act–Observe–Reflect cycles. Data were collected using creativity questionnaires, classroom observations, and interviews, and triangulated to validate findings. Results showed high agreement (74–93%) across creativity dimensions during orientation–implementation, supported by observed evidence of detailed planning, novel product ideas, and iterative troubleshooting. However, more neutral responses emerged during evaluation, indicating difficulties in evidence-based reflection and conceptual integration. The core chemistry concepts addressed included fermentation chemistry, pH interpretation, solution dilution, and acid strength comparisons. Triangulation was generally convergent, with partial divergence in originality during evaluation due to discrepancies between self-perceived novelty and observed pedagogical innovation. These findings suggest that ethnoscience-enriched PjBL effectively promotes creative PCK development, but requires structured scaffolding to strengthen data-driven justification and synthesis during reflective evaluation.
