Abstract

This article discusses about the usability of Bridge-A Course Book of Intermediate Practical Chinese at Chinese Department BINUS University. Based on research, lecturers and students agree that this book has fulfilled the requirements as classroom textbook for Intermediate level including grammar, vocabulary and reading text. However, some materials cannot be easily understood due to cultural differences. Therefore, in order to get the most out of the book, teachers are expected to explain vocabularies in its specific context and background, and select appropriate reading text that relates to Indonesian values such as religion and culture.

Abstract

Pinyin is a valuable tool for students who learn Chinese as a second language. Through years of teaching practice and observation, some errors in Indonesian students’ understanding and using in Pinyin were summed up, includingthe phonetic alphabet equated to the actual voice entirely caused the mispronunciation; lack of understanding in some special provisions in Pinyin caused the confusion of vowels “u” and “ü”; improperly placement of tone marks; did not understand the pinyin word-segmentation resulting in memory and understanding of Chinese based on Chinese characters instead of the word as a unit. These errors disturbed the accuracy of Chinese students’ pronunciation, caused problems in Chinese vocabulary understanding. It is very important for Indonesian Chinese language learners to lay a solid foundation of Pinyin and develop good habits in the use of Pinyin.

Abstract

Chinese language is one of the typical isolated languages. It lacks morphological variation; part of speech has no morphological signs; the additional component of word formation is less; and the roots never change their forms. The major method of Chinese word formation is the combination of roots according to certain grammatical relations. Although the affix word formation is not part of mainstream Chinese word formation, affix-formation is still an integral part of the Chinese word-formation. Article used literature review, summarized the types and meanings of Chinese affixes. And meanwhile, article analyzed word formation function of Chinese Affixes and quasi-affixes. The Chinese quasi-affixes have stronger capabilities in forming new words, but development direction of Chinese quasi-affixes has to stand the test of time.

Abstract

The Chinese department of Binus University opened the course of Chinese film. This course aims to improve the students’ Chinese language skill, and at the same time, on the basis of Chinese proficiency, to improve their knowledge of Chinese history and cultural understanding of China, to cultivate their connoisseurship of Chinese film. Two versions of the course syllabus i.e. version 2008 and version 2013 wereintroduced in this article. Syllabus and teaching practice figured out the most suitable teaching content and teaching method for the course. Research found that the combination of classic movies and popular movies, the course of Chinese film, in conjunction with the literature course is the best way. By this method, the course of Chinese Film plays a better role in improving students' Chinese proficiency and virtuosity level.

Abstract

Article outlines how multimedia is used in the classroom in the Chinese department of Bina Nusantara University. The Binusmaya system standardizes teaching and online communication. Multimedia is an effective supplement to traditional classroom based-teaching of Chinese. Multimedia can increase the learning motivation and improve teaching efficiency. Multimedia also plays a very important role in improving classroom based-teaching of Chinese, teaching standards and enhances a closer relationship between teachers and students.

Abstract

In the novel "Chun Tao", Xu Dishan created Chun Tao as a new image of women, who has strong survival spirit, firm life philosophy and independent viability. Although Chun Tao?s life was full of suffering, she never gave up hope. Through the analysis of the survival consciousness of Chun Tao revealed her spirits of independent and self-respecting, also showed the glory of humanity distributed by Chun Tao. Through close reading to analyze the character Chun Tao from the perspective of survival, intend to provide a new angle of observation for the reader to understand Chun Tao.

Abstract

As the main female character in movie "Farewell My Concubine", Ju Xian was a brave, smart, worldly-wise but kindhearted woman. Even though she was a prostitute, she was longing for an ordinary life. She loved Xiao Lou, moreover, in order to engross Xiao Lou, she even tried to drive a wedge between Die Yi and Xiao Lou. She used her wisdom to save and protect Xiao Lou, but on the other hand, she was also the one who destroyed Xiao Lou and her own life. Article tried to through close reading analyze the character of Ju Xian and her relationships with Die Yi and Xiao Lou. Article revealed the inescapable tragic fate of Ju Xian.
