Abstract

Portal Web Perpustakaan Nasional Republik Indonesia(PNRI) or Indonesian National Library Web Portal is one of the best resources that support education in Indonesia. With the large collection of librarians, PNRI can reach millions of librarian with various education background and area. To ensure its sustainability, we need to conduct research to know how good is the usability this web portal to the remote user. One of the way is using web usability testing. By using this test, PNRI will get the information about what is needed to be fixed and for the next step it can be used as recommendation in redesigning of the portal. PNRI web portal test will be held using remote usability test method. The research is conducted by combining inquiry with formal usability test, like giving a task to the participant. The sampling method used is random sampling by using 32 participant. Data gathering technique used is using online questionnaire.  The research result shows that: (1) most of the participant get difficulties in finding information about service schedule; (2) most of the participant dissatisfied in interface design and arrangement in the homepage of PNRI portal. This research is intended as the starting research. It needs the next research to deepen and complete the information and research findings, especially about portal efficiency.

Abstract

Research data management has not been widely implemented In Indonesia. However, several research institutions have successfully adopted it with various levels of implementation. Various obstacles faced by research institutions and universities may cause the slow implementation of RDM. Nevertheless, institutions that have implemented RDM also have supporting factors that potentially help in accelerating RDM implementation. To find out the factors that support and hinder the RDM implementation in research organizations, the researcher conducted a study of two research institutions, namely CIFOR and LIPI. This research was a qualitative study and the data were collected through direct interviews. The results of the interviews were then processed and analyzed using the thematic analysis method. The results of the study show that the two institutions have several supporting factors in carrying out RDM, namely: the character of the organization which is a research institution, the involvement of overall management in the advocacy process, the existence of supporting policies, and the existence of outreach and training activities for the researchers. Meanwhile, the hindering factors are the researchers who have not been familiar with RDM, the resignation of some researchers at CIFOR, and the uneven competence of human resources in PDDI LIPI. The last two inhibiting factors are uniquely experienced by respective institutions. The successful implementation of RDM in research institutions requires the cooperation of all parties at all levels of management. In addition, research organizations need to provide support services, namely research data services, data literacy training for researchers and librarians, and the availability of institutional policies.

Abstract

Introduction. This study aims to examine the Islamic collection development process conducted by 4 (four) Islamic universities’ libraries in East Java, including selection criteria and tools, the use of the collection, and challenges faced by the librarian Data Collection Method. Using a mixed-methods approach with surveys and interviews, four head of libraries and 338 students participated in this research. Analysis Data. Data from the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis method while the qualitative data from interviews were analyzed using the thematic analysis technique. Results and Discussions. The results showed that the libraries did not have any written collection development policies. The four libraries have used the right selection tools, but most of them have not utilized reviews of books based on online sources and social media. At present, the four libraries have not had any special subjects which potentially emerged as a distinction of the libraries’ collection. Nevertheless, there has been a plan to develop such a special subject of Islamic collection. The use of Islamic literature collections among students were considered in medium level of use. The challenges in developing Islamic literature collections are sourced both from internal and external sources. Internally, the library has not evaluated their collection development policies. While the low participation of lecturers in the development of library collections emerged as obstacles from external sources. Conclusions. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the libraries involved in this study still needs improvements in some areas.

Abstract

1Lib1Ref (One Librarian, One Reference) is a movement to add references to Wikipedia articles that still need adequate references. 1Lib1Ref is currently open for participation by librarians and the general public. Wikipedia considers librarians to have good skills and resources to support the quality and reliability of articles. During the activity period of January 15 to February 5 and May 15 to June 5 every year, supporters of this program also campaign #1Lib1Ref on social media, especially Twitter (X). The researcher applies the content analysis method to analyze 214 tweets containing the hashtag #1Lib1ReF on Twitter in 2022. From the analysis results, 4 (four) big themes often appeared during that year, namely the #1LibRef campaign, event promotion, regional sentiment, and sharing personal experiences.

Abstract

Introduction. This research examines the electronic theses and dissertation repository policies at four universities in Surabaya, namely UIN Sunan Ampel, Universitas Airlangga, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, and Universitas Kristen Petra. It explores the policy formulation process and evaluates whether the existing policies have considered good repository governance practices, such as data protection, notice and take-down policy, and data reuse. Data Collection Methods. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, using interviews, policy documents, and writing guidelines as primary data sources. Data analysis. Data was analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model, which consists of data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Results and Discussion. The policy formulation process follows a top-down approach involving university rectors/vice rectors, library heads, and librarians. The top managements determine the publication model and embargo periods. However, repository policies remain incomplete, with some still verbally communicated rather than properly documented. Conclusion. Repository policies are still heavily influenced by university leaders, so the focus is currently on access restrictions and embargoes to increase the number of publications, rather than improving governance. The role of librarians in raising awareness and advocating for open access is necessary.
