Abstract

Bela DV, Latifah S. 2019. MSG-benefits of micin for rice (steady) plants as a food that is chemical-free and environmentally friendly to maintain public health towards a progressing Indonesia. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal 2019, Palembang 4-5 September 2019. pp. 502-507. Palembang: Unsri Press.Indonesia is one of the countries that has the largest population in the world, 260,580,739 people whose staple food is rice (cooked rice from rice). Over time, the need for rice is increasing, as a result farmers take a way out by using chemicals to produce maximum harvest, even though the use of chemicals is not good for the health of the body, especially if consumed long and excessive. But in reality in various regions the use of chemicals as fertilizers is still very high. Thus, one way to reduce the use of chemicals in rice plants is by using MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) as a maximum fruit-producing auxiliary material. The content of compounds in MSG can increase water content during the summer or dry and is able to nourish the development of plants. So that MSG can prevent the occurrence of water resistance, fertilize plants and make plants look fresh with greener leaves, dense and healthy rice. So with the use of MSG, besides being environmentally friendly, rice is also free of chemicals. Keywords: environmentally friendly, MSG, rice growth

Abstract

Conceptual understanding is often a problem in science learning, and this issue has become the point of science education experts, including in Indonesia. Lately, ten articles in Indonesia and six articles in other countries have discussed the model of the 7E Learning Cycle. It was mentioned that this model is able to increase learners’ conceptual understanding. This research intended to reveal the effectivity of physics learning using the 7E Learning Cycle in improving students’ understanding of temperature and heat concepts. The research design is quasi-experimental with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample was senior high school students. Objective test in the form of multiple choices equipped with reason was employed as the data collection instrument. Based on the data analysis, the value of Effect Size was 0.5 and belonged to the medium category. In other words, the use of the 7E Learning Cycle model is sufficient to improve the learners’ understanding of temperature and heat concepts. This could be seen from the success of the learning process that integrates the whole seven stages with the seven indicators of conceptual understanding in detail. Thus, the 7E Learning Cycle could be effectively applied and can increase the students’ conceptual understanding.

Abstract

As many studies have proven, self-efficacy positively affects learning performance. Therefore, many instruments have been developed to measure self-efficacy. To be used for educational purposes, the instrument must be proven valid and reliable. This study aims to develop and evaluate the Academic Self-Efficacy Inventory (ASEI) that meets the criteria to be applied as a self-efficacy instrument. This research is a two-phase study designed following the recommendations for scale design and development.A total of 505 Indonesian high school students majoring in science were involved as respondents to test the 20-item rating scale. As a result, all questionnaire items met the fit category with an item reliability score of 0.94, and the unidimensionality scale also met the variance value explained by measures and unexplained variance criteria. Thus, ASEI is declared suitable, reliable, and valid for measuring students' self-efficacy on the topic of light and sound waves. This research provides results in the form of a self-efficacy instrument on the topic of light and sound waves and a validity test with a high value, which is useful for readers to have confidence in the quality of the study results.
