Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to describe and analyze the ability to understand the concept of absolute value equations and inequalities in class X IPS students at SMAN 13 Padang. Analyze students' conceptual understanding abilities in this study, can be seen from four indicators, namely: (1) rewriting a concept; (2) presenting concepts in the form of mathematical representations; (3) using, utilizing, and selecting certain procedures or operations; (4) apply concepts or algorithms in problem-solving. The question in this study is how is the ability to understand the concept of absolute value equality and inequality in class X IPS students at SMAN 13 Padang. The method in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive research type. The subjects in this study were 33 class X IPS 1 students at SMAN 13 Padang who were selected by purposive sampling. From the results of the research conducted, the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts as an indicator of the ability to understand mathematical concepts, especially in rewriting a concept and presenting concepts in the form of mathematical representations, is very good. On indicators of the ability to understand concepts in using, utilizing, and selecting certain procedures or operations and applying algorithms in problem-solving with the sufficient category. From the research results obtained, it is suggested that teachers can provide exercises to improve students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. Abstract

Critical thinking skills play a crucial role in education development, especially in the context of mathematics learning in schools. Unfortunately, research indicates that students' critical thinking abilities in class X MIPA 2 at SMAN 13 Padang are still low. During the learning process, students tend to focus solely on the final formulas provided by their teachers without attempting to understand the underlying steps, often resorting to copying them into their notes. Therefore, this research aims to describe and analyze students' critical thinking abilities in solving mathematics problems in class X MIPA at SMAN 13 Padang.The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive research design. The research subjects involve all students in class X MIPA 2 at SMAN 13 Padang, selected through a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments consist of a critical thinking ability test followed by interviews with six students, each representing high, medium, and low-performing groups based on the critical thinking ability test results. The research findings indicate significant variations in the critical thinking abilities of students in class X MIPA 2 at SMAN 13 Padang. The high-performing group achieved 21.21%, the medium-performing group reached 63.63%, while the low-performing group only reached 15.15%.

Abstract

This study aims to produce learning media Education Game based on PowerDroid in learning valid and practical math for junior high school students. The type of research used is Research & Development (R&D) with the Borg & Gall development model modified by Sugiyono. There are 10 research steps, researchers limit the research steps to 7 steps, namely: 1) Potential and problems; 2) Data collection; 3) Product design; 4) Design validation; 5) Design revision; 6) Product trial; and 7) Product revision. 2 expert validators validated the developed product. The results of the material expert validation get a percentage of 100% with the criteria "very valid", the results of the media expert validation get a percentage of 87% with the criteria "valid". After the validation is complete, the student and teacher practicality test is continued, the practicality test is carried out at SMPS Yapphi Pasar Usang with 4 students and 1 math teacher to determine the feasibility level of learning media. The results of the student's practicality percentage get a percentage of 94.64% with the criteria "very practical", the results of the teacher's practicality get a percentage of 100% with the criteria "very practical". They are also supported by the results of positive teacher and student responses and the results of student evaluations that have met the passing score. It can be concluded that the development of PowerDroid-based Education Games in learning mathematics for grade VIII junior high school students is very feasible to use as learning media
