Abstract

The low quality of life of hemodialysis (HD) patients at the Riau Province referral hospital, Arifin Achmad Hospital, is due to dialysis adequacy and low activity levels of hemodialysis (HD) patients. Intradialytic exercise has been shown to improve dialysis adequacy and, as a result, patient quality of life. The aim of this community service is to improve HD nurses' intradialytic exercise knowledge and skills. Training HD nurses on intradialytic exercise is the method of performing community service activities, with implementation approaches including sharing material and skill simulation. The result is that HD nurses have more knowledge and abilities concerning intradialytic exercise, with an average score of 94.3 percent on the post-test. Furthermore, nurses are able to share intradialytic exercise knowledge and skills with HD patients, therefore it is believed that HD patients will be able to use intradialytic exercise to improve their quality of life.

Abstract

Adolescents frequently experience social changes that lead to issues, when they start building relationships with people of the same sex as well as those of the opposite sex in order to gain recognition, self-identity and social behavior. Lack of self-confidence, low self-esteem, shyness, anxiety, and hesitancy in expressing opinions are symptoms that appear in adolescents. They also only being silent when given the opportunity to ask questions during the learning process in class or outside of it, and difficulty saying no to things they don't like. One could say that these students have poor or negative self-concept. Through the application of Adolescent Therapeutic Group Therapy (TKT) and Assertive Training (AT), this community service seeks to enhance students' self-concept in the 7th grade at SMPN 20 Pekanbaru. This program is in the form of applying the Therapeutic Group Therapy (TKT) for adolescents and Assertive Training (AT) which is carried out through describing, modeling, role playing, feedback, and transferring. Pre-test and post-test procedures were used before and after the application of Adolescent Therapeutic Group Therapy and Assertive Training (AT). It was known that 26 students were categorized as having a high self-concept at pre-test, and that number rose to 32 at the post-test.

Abstract

The physical problem that is often experienced by hemodialysis (HD) patients and is difficult to overcome is the problem of excess fluid. This can be seen from the patient's weight gain between dialysis times or called interdialytic weight gain (IDWG). A high IDWG is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular causes of death and increased morbidity. The application of evidence based practice in the form of IDWG management interventions has been proven to be able to overcome excessive weight gain between the two HD or IDWG times. The purpose of this community service is to increase the knowledge and skills of HD patients regarding evidence based practice in the form of IDWG management interventions. The method of implementing community service activities is in the form of training packaged with HD patients on IDWG management with lectures, questions and answers, and demonstrations. The resulting impact is an increase in the knowledge and skills of HD patients regarding IDWG management with a standard percentage of IDWG weight gain of 22% and IDWG weight loss >3.5% of 14% after implementing IDWG management. In addition, the patient has been able to apply techniques to overcome thirst and xerosemia. Nurses and the patient's family must take part in providing support for patient compliance in implementing IDWG management so that patients can avoid complications from excess fluid problems which can ultimately improve the patient's quality of life.
