Abstract

Some teachers do not teach pronunciation very well in their class. The more frequently teach reading and grammar than pronunciation. Therefore, students’ ability in pronouncing the words is still low and they feel difficult to pronounce the words given by the teacher. It makes the students feel afraid of making mistakes in pronouncing the words. It happens because the students do not have any habit in learning pronunciation in their class and they are not interested of learning pronunciation. The objective of this research is to improve students’ pronunciation ability by using English song media. English songs can be used by English teachers to teach pronunciation in every level. This research uses classroom action research. It was conducted in three cycles and each cycle has four steps; planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data gained from observation and students’ score test of pronunciation. The researcher took a class consists of thirty students with three cycles. The result showed that there is improvement in students’ test scores after the researcher conduct three cycles of research. The result was taken from students’ scores in pronunciation. It showed that teaching pronunciation by using English songs is very effective in the teaching-learning process

Abstract

This research is about translation strategies that are found in short story entitled The Importance of Fulfilling Promise. According to Chesterman (1997), there are three types of translation strategy, namely syntactic strategy, semantic strategy and pragmatic strategy. The problem of the research is what translation strategies that are used in English-Indonesia translation of short story entitled The Importance of Fulfilling Promises. The objective of the research is to find out what translation strategies that are used in English-Indonesia translation of short story entitled The Importance of Fulfilling Promises. The writer used descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the data. After the writer analyzed the data, the writer found 21 of translation strategy that the translator used in translating a short story entitled The Importance of Fulfilling Promise, namely 9 syntactic strategy (2 literal translation, 2 calque, 2 phrase structure change, 2 cohesion change, 1 sentence structure change), 4 semantic strategy (2 synonymy and 2 emphasis change), and 8 pragmatic strategy (6 explicitness change and 2 illocutionary). Therefore, the total of data that the writer found is 21 data translation strategy.

Abstract

Lagu merupakan sebuah apresiasi karya sastra yang dilengkapi dengan faktor-faktor penyampaian emosi. Oleh karena itu, lagu dapat menjadi sarana komunikasi yang ingin disampaikan oleh penyanyi dan penulis lagu kepada pendengar tentang apa yang mereka rasakan. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis ingin mengkaji tentang bagaimana aspek gramatikal dan aspek psikologikal pada lagu Slank “Naik-naik ke puncak gunung” menggunakan pendekatan hermeneutika dari Schleiermacher. Tujuan penulis melakukan penelitan ini adalah penulis ingin mengetahui dan menemukan aspek gramatikal dan psikologikal pada lagu Slank “Naik-naik ke puncak gunung” dengan menggunakan pendekatan hermeneutika dari Schleiermacher. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Kesimpulan akhir yang didapat adalah bahwa kajian hermeneutika mengenai lagu Slank “Naik-naik ke puncak gunung” mendapatkan beberapa aspek yang menunjang tentang pemahaman kondisi Indonesia di tahun 1998 diantaranya ada interpretasi gramatikal yang meliputi hubungan kausal, pengulangan kata atau kalimat serta penambahan imbuhan, sedangkan dilihat dari aspek interpretasi psikologis, lirik lagu ini mengandung kritik sosial pada pemerintah yang mana menceritakan tentang semua harga kebutuhan dan bahan bakar minyak yang naik sehingga menjadikan rakyat semakin menderita.

Abstract

The research aims to find out types of figurative language used in the Malibu Nights album and the most dominant figurative language that is used. The data source is obtained from an album called Malibu Nights from one of LANY's discography. This research used the qualitative method and Perrine’s theory in collecting and analyzing the data. From the 26 data, 5 types of figurative language consist 6 items of metaphor, 5 items of personifications, 9 items of hyperbole, 5 items of simile, and 1 item of paradox. From the data that has been found, it can be concluded that the dominant figurative language that are used in Malibu Nights album is hyperbole with total of 9 items.

Abstract

This research was intended to find out the forms and the most dominant of slang words are found in ITZY’s English Version Songs. The problems of the research are; what forms of slang words are found in the ITZY’s English Version songs and what the most dominant slang words that are used in the ITZY’s English Version songs. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative method. The theory that used for this research from Elisa Mattiello. The data of this research are slang words collected from lyrics in ITZY’s English Version Songs. The results of this research showed that there are 84 data and 5 types of slang word formation, such as 1 compounding, 1 suffixation, 28 blending, 35 clipping, and 19 variation. Besides, the type of slang word formations that most commonly used is clipping.
