Abstract

A word can have different meanings depending on the use of the word itself, such as the word "computer" that shows in the Hidden Figures movie. It is important for us to know the meaning of a word itself to understand about the topic of a conversation. Thus, this research aims to analyze the use of the word "computer" and its meaning with semantic approach in Hidden Figures movie. Therefore, this study adopted a qualitative method. The data obtained were analyzed by emphasizing the search for meaning, understanding and concepts and descriptions of a phenomenon. The data collected is based on the conversations conducted by the characters in the Hidden Figures movie. The results of this study aim to show the use of the word "computer" and how it has meaning by referring to semantic studies.

Abstract

Movies are identical to characters. If the characters are less attractive, the audience's interest can also decrease. Therefore, it is also important that a character has characteristics that specifically describe the character's personality and what traits are contained in him. For instance, The Great Gatsby (2013) movie features the main character with a romantic theme taken during the era of World War I. Gatsby's interesting character will make people interested in watching the film. The purposes of this study are to find out the characteristics of Gatsby and the six pillars of character attached to Gatsby. The method used in this analysis is qualitative. The data used in this study is a conversation, taken from a transcription, from a film entitled The Great Gatsby (2013), which can be watched streaming on the HBO application. The object of the research is the main character, namely Gatsby. This study shows that Gatsby has arrogant characteristics, feels nervous about something, feels loved, is persistent, and has high expectations. And according to the Josephson Of Institute's six pillars, there are several categories of six pillars within Gatsby, namely caring, respect, responsibility, and citizenship. Abstract

Bahasa kiasan seringkali ditemukan pada karya sastra seperti puisi, drama ataupun lagu. Penelitian ini penulis menganalisis beberapa lagu dengan tema patah hati yang menggunakan jenis Bahasa kiasan metaphor, repetition, hyperbole dan personification. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif karena penelitian ini berasal dari lirik lagu yang mengandung banyak jenis Bahasa kiasan dan menjelaskan hasil analisis data berupa deskripsi. Objek dari penelitian ini adalah Bahasa kiasan yang ada dalam lirik lagu Taylor Swift bertemakan patah hati. Ada beberapa jenis Bahasa kiasan yang memiliki ciri-ciri yang berbeda, yaitu: hyperbole, metaphor, personification dan repetition. Pengumpulan data dengan cara mengelompokkan dokumen-dokumen yang berkaitan dengan permasalahan yang dibahas, baik website maupun beberapa sumber, jurnal, buku dan arsip. Penulis memilih lagu bertemakan patah hati. Hasil penulis menyimpulkan bahwa tiga lagu Taylor Swift bertemakan patah hati, gaya bahasa digunakan ialah gaya bahasa methapore pada lagu “Dear John”, repitition pada lagu “This Love” dan personification pada lagu “Back To December”.
