Its is the matter of fact that Muslims way to behave, including to behave before other communities, such as Christians, comes from the Qur’an. To understand how Muslims do something on their religiousity is then to come analyzing the Qur’an. This is what Jane Dammen McAulife fully aware of; She is curious of how the Qur’an presents the Christians. However, since the Qur’an further controlled by exegesis, it become an integral aspect in her way to study Qura’nic Christians. This paper will descriptively explore Jane Dammen McAuliffe’s though on Qur’anic presentation to Christians. Her dissertation will be the basis of analysis. However, we previously present the mapping of her whole thought to gain the comprehensive understanding on her complete thought. In context of Qur’anic Christians, she concludes that since the exegesis controls the Qur’an, Qur’anic Christians refer to nor historical Christians nor the living community call themselves as Christians.

Paradigma Integrasi-interkoneksi meniscayakan penggunaan pendekatan-pendekatan baru dalam studi Islam, termasuk studi al-Qur’an.

Indonesia is one of a few countries that has an official Qur’ān translation, namely Al-Qur’an dan Terjemahnya (QT). As a country that has always been preoccupied with issues of religious regulation, there is a general consensus among the current scholarship on QT, namely that QT is the state's instrument for creating a standardized Islamic discourse in Indonesia. My paper questions this argument through an analysis of three interpretive cases in QT: the creation verse (Q 4:1), akābīra mujrimīhā in Q 6:123, and awliyāʾ in Q 5:51, focusing on the extent to which the interpretive outcome of QT is closely controlled by the state. In contrast to the 'control argument,' this study demonstrates that the renderings of QT in these three cases reflect the state's lack of involvement in the actual translation process. Despite the fact that QT is a state-commissioned and authorized Qur’ān translation, the ulama continue to be the masters of QT interpretive authority. While the entire process of producing QT may imply the obvious presence of the state, when we consider the genealogical nature of tafsīr, the religious authority of QT returns to the ulama rather than the state.

History of the Qur’an has showed numbers of its translations into various languages, including Indonesian Language. Even the existence and the roles of translations in society are evidently needed, but its theoretical discourse within the field of ‘Ulum Alqur’an is still ambiguous. This paper attempts to describe the theoretical debate in Qur’anic translation and examine it through the existed Qur’anic translation in Indonesia. The basic argument built is that the theory of tarjamah Alqur’an within ‘Ulum Alqur’an has several theoretical problems: first, the categorization of harfiyyah and tafsiriyyah are not clearly operative; second, the terminology of tarjamah is implied to be meaningless; and third, there is no clear-cut concept of tarjamah dan tafsir. This problem rose from the stringency in the meaning of tarjamah and theological burden to emphasize i’jiz of the Qur’an. Hereby, widening the meaning of tarjamah as an alternative solution is needed.

This article discusses the recent developments in the scholarship of (the history of) tafsir in Indonesia, especially with regards to how the writers in this scholarship built the terminology of tafsir nusantara that has been widely used lately. Furthermore, this paper offers an alternative way of discussing the terminology. Forthis purpose, this article methodologically and theoretically discusses the works within the discipline of the history of tafsir in Indonesia. This article argues that the term tafsir nusantara is used by in two perspectives:(1) as an instrument to limit the locus of research within the perspective of regional studies and (2) as anattempt at compiling and explaining the locality of tafsir; a derived view of Islam Nusantara. From these twoperspectives, this paper further discusses the terminology of tafsir nusantara through the perspective of tafsir as genealogical tradition.
