Abstract

The objective of this study is twofold: firstly, to ascertain the preferences of coconut farmers with regard to processed coconut products; and secondly, to investigate the coconut processing process in Kancinaa Village. The population under investigation in this study consisted of all coconut farmers in Kancinaa Village. The informants were selected using the purposive method, with several considerations taken into account, including the number of informants in the study, which was nine coconut farmers. This research employs a qualitative data collection methodology. In order to collect the necessary data, the researchers employed a combination of observation and semi-structured interviews, with the use of interview guides to facilitate the process. The present study focuses on the preferences of farmers with regard to processed coconut products. The research data were analyzed qualitatively using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the predominant preference among coconut farmers in Kancinaa Village for processed coconut products is wet processing, which results in the production of cooking oil. Furthermore, dry processing and selling by the log are alternative options for coconut farmers when selecting a business model. The preference of farmers in Kancinaa Village in choosing coconut processing is influenced by a number of factors, including social, psychological, and economic considerations. Among these three factors, economic factors are the most significant, including production costs, selling prices, and market demand. Coconut processing in Kancinaa Village can be classified into three main categories: wet processing, which results in cooking oil products; dry processing, which results in fried coconut products; and selling coconuts in the form of logs or without processing.

Abstract

Waode Buri Village is one of the clove production centers in North Buton Regency, but the productivity and quality of the harvest are still below the national average and have decreased every year. This study aims to examine the behavior of farmers at the picking stage in handling clove harvests in Waode Buri Village, North Kulisusu District, North Buton Regency, which includes knowledge, attitudes, and skills. The number of informants in this study was 7 people who were selected based on criteria that have been made by the researcher. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation of local clove farmers. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Milles and Huberman. The results of the study indicate that the behavior of farmers at the picking stage in handling the harvest is still largely carried out in a hereditary manner, with manual harvesting techniques and at the picking stage, farmers do not use banggul as it should be in the picking process used in other clove producing areas., limited use of tools, and lack of quality control of the harvest. Improving farmers' knowledge and skills through training and extension, as well as government support in providing facilities and market access, is essential to improve the quality and selling value of cloves.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to ascertain the traditional knowledge possessed by farmers in Waode Buri Village, North Kulisusu District, North Buton Regency, concerning post-harvest handling of clove plants. The informants for this study were clove farmers residing in Waode Buri Village. The selection of informants was conducted in accordance with a set of predetermined criteria, culminating in a total of seven individuals who were deemed eligible for participation in the study. The data for this study was collected through a combination of methods, including observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews guided by a structured interview protocol. The present study concentrated on the knowledge that farmers possess regarding the post-harvest handling of clove plants. The collected data were then subjected to analysis using the qualitative analysis method proposed by Milles & Huberman, which includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings of the study suggest that farmers' comprehension of post-harvest management of cloves in Waode Buri Village demonstrates their awareness of the significance of sorting, drying, packaging, and storage processes in preserving clove quality prior to sale. In the post-harvest handling of cloves, farmers continue to utilize traditional methods that have been handed down through generations. However, challenges persist in the post-harvest handling process, including restricted access to market information and minimal utilization of contemporary technology.

Abstract

The success of rice farming in Wungkolo Village is largely determined by the availability and distribution of effective means of production, technological and government support, and the strategic role of farmer groups in facilitating production needs and increasing farmer productivity. The objective of this study is to ascertain the role of farmer groups in the distribution of production inputs in Wungkolo Village, South Wawonii District, Konawe Islands Regency. The selection of informants was executed through the implementation of purposive sampling. The present study comprised a total of ten informants. The data presented herein were collected through the implementation of interviews, the structure of which was predicated upon a series of inquiries pertinent to the research topic. Furthermore, observation and documentation methods were employed to bolster the research findings. The focal point of this study was the function of farmer groups in the distribution of rice paddy production facilities. The data were analyzed using both descriptive and qualitative methods. The results of the study indicate that the function of farmer groups in the distribution of production facilities in Wungkolo Village is not yet functioning properly. This is evidenced by the distribution of fertilizers that are not yet of the right type and quantity, which is still less than what farmers need. The distribution of seeds can be considered effective if the distribution of seeds corresponds to the appropriate type and quantity. The distribution of pesticides is still not optimal in terms of type, quantity, and timing.
