Abstract

At the time of the Prophet, the mosque was a center for worship activities and economic activities, learning, socio-politics, etc. From this mosque environment, great figures in Islam were born who were not only strong in religion but also intellectually and mentally. However, the mosque has decreased in function now so that it is only a place of prayer. This phenomenon also occurs in the city of Medan, which is one of the largest cities in Indonesia, with the majority of the population being Muslim. Therefore, Medan often becomes the center of various activities, including Islamic religious activities in the area. Unfortunately, Medan does not yet have adequate facilities that can accommodate various Islamic religious activities, so it needs an activity center known as an Islamic center. The design of the Islamic center in the city of Medan solves design problems with an approach methodology ranging from literature studies, site surveys, and design concept analysis. This Islamic center applies a design concept by taking Islamic values that are not indifferent to the surrounding environment so that elements of the local culture are still considered. It is hoped that this Islamic center will not only be able to become a center of activity, especially Islamic religious activities in Medan, but also an area of learning about Islamic and local values in its design

Abstract

The era of globalization has made it easier for the Indonesian people to access various information that has changed the way people view the education system, especially in the creative industry sector. Creative industries are industrial products that go through the process of developing creative ideas to produce innovative products. But the problem that often occurs is that there are no creative ideas due to the unsupportive atmosphere of the space. Biophilic architecture creates areas that can help everyone focus, improve physical and mental health, improve mood, help reduce stress, provide a positive physiological response, arouse curiosity, refresh memory and problem-solving skills, and need exploration. The method used in this study is a descriptive analysis method with a qualitative approach, with the initial step of collecting data in physical, non-physical data, and application development regulations through observation of the design site and literature review. This study aims to find out how the application of biophilic designs in creative industrial buildings creates a creative environment and optimizes human needs for green open spaces based on theoretical studies. This research will produce design concepts that can be input for the Medan city government

Abstract

The design of a rental office in the sub-district of Medan Sunggal is a design for a rental office located in one of the business centres in the city of Medan, precisely in the sub-district of Medan Sunggal with the theme of tropical architecture. The problem that business actors or novice freelancers often face when trying to take independent steps to open new jobs due to Indonesia’s low level of employment is worrying about the high cost of office rentals like conventional office rentals in general. This rental office implements a serviced office system (office ready to use) which aims to make it easier for tenants, especially in terms of finances. The settlement method used is the descriptive method used in the design based on analytical reasoning and empirical structural research, along with identifying things that support the method. The use of a tropical architectural theme refers to the climate of Medan, which tends to be tropical and can be utilized by maximizing energy savings from natural sunlight. This rental office is expected to be good news for business actors, freelancers, and stakeholders in overcoming problems regarding the need for rental offices in the Medan Sunggal sub-district.

Abstract

The author's project of choice is an educational and leisure center housed in the former Deli Tobacco Hospital. Deli Tobacco General Hospital on Putri Hijau Street, Medan, North Sumatra. is a hospital that was founded in 1908 with the name Veregnide Deli Maatschapy Hospital. This hospital was founded to anticipate the high death rate of plantation workers at that time. The plantation workers are said to be attacked by diseases that are often found in tropical areas, such as beriberi and malaria. And now this building has been closed by PT Perkebunan Nusantara II since January 2012. Co-working spaces, libraries, museums, workshop areas, shops, restaurants, and cafés are all included in the design area's scope. Worship spaces, parks, and playground areas are included as supporting services. The author used tropical architecture in both indoor and outdoor areas when creating this project to address the issues that arose. In and of itself, tropical architecture considers the local climate. It is envisaged that by applying the idea of Tropical Architecture to the project, the author will be able to create architectural solutions that will make users of the Edu-recreational Center more comfortable. The way the area between the internal and outdoor spaces is arranged and laid out subsequently demonstrates how this tropical architecture is being applied.
