Abstract

Modification of ovitrap by using abate has been proven to increase the rate of the free number of larvae (ABJ) up to 80 % but difficulty of obtaining abate. Kelurahan Baru Ladang Bambu District of Medan Tuntungan is one of the endemic villages in Medan City. In this area, many plants are found Ricinnus communis whose leaves are often used to treat colds for babies and children while many seeds are wasted scattered. Based on that the researcher by using jatropha seed as material for ovitrap modification in improving ABJ. This research is a quasi-experiment research with pre-test and post-test. The population is home and community in Kelurahan Baru Ladang Bambu, the sample is 90 houses for three treatments, ie without treatment, ovitrap treatment with abate powder and ovitrap treatment with jatropha seed powder, with dose each 5mg / 100 l water. Interviews were also conducted with the community to know the level of participation in using ovitrap modification. Based on the result of the research, it is known that the modification of ovitrap with jatropha seed (p = 0,001) is more effective than using abate powder to increase ABJ. The level of public participation in using ovitrap modification is still low, this is seen from the actions of people who use modification ovitrap 54.44%. While the level of knowledge in the com-munity has increased well (78.88%). Modification of ovitrap by using jatropha seeds can increase the ABJ, it is expected that the community can use this method to reduce the density of mosqui-toes considering the easily accessible seeds in this area. Therefore, further research is needed to determine the appropriate dose in the provision of safe and non-odor-free seeds.

Some factors which influence the comfort of the pedestrian lane are microclimate, noise, aroma, security, cleanliness, beauty. The research was done at the pedestrian lane of Padangsidimpuan by using field observation. The data were obtained from surveying and questionnaire distribution. The research used the descriptive method to describe the existing condition of the pedestrian lane. It based on its comfort and Likert scale calculation to find out the level of comfort of pedestrian lane users. The result of the research showed that the level of comfort from the factor of security, pedestrians’ safety from offense had the highest value of 71%, the level of offense at Padangsidsimpuan was low, and the level of comfort, from the blazing heat, had the lowest value of 41%. It was because shade trees were not densely planted; they were only on the left side of the pedestrian lane so that they did not function optimally. It is recommended that the comfort of the pedestrian lane at Padangsidimpuan be increased and renewed by prioritizing the disabled people, planting trees along the pedestrian lane, and building stopping places to enable pedestrians to wait for public transportation.

Abstract

So many cases of crime have occurred in the parking area. Because this causes many losses, ways are needed to avoid it happening again. One of the efforts that can be done in preventing the occurrence of crime in the parking area is by applying security aspects with the concept of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and applying safety aspects that examine security aspects in preventing crime in the environment of human activities in a design approach. Environmental and safety aspects. In this study, the method used is descriptive qualitative to obtain factual and systematic data. The data is processed using the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method with the help of software, namely Super Decision, to get the value of each CPTED component for motorcycle parking facilities. The value of the study of applying the CPTED concept theory for security and safety aspects in the Podomoro Mall motorcycle parking area shows that the elements of the CPTED concept and safety aspects in the motorcycle parking area have not been fully implemented. However, overall security and safety in this parking area are guaranteed because almost all the variables available at this location already meet existing standards. The riders feel safe and secure when they are in this parking area even though some aspects are not met. It could be improved would be much better. The results of this study are expected to be helpful in the field of architecture, especially in crime.

Abstract

Thermal comfort is something that must be considered in a building to create comfort for its users. One of the factors that influence thermal conditions is the orientation of the building towards the sun and building materials. The Museum Perkebunan Indonesia is one of the famous and oldest museums in Medan, Indonesia. Besides that, the museum still has the dutch colonial architecture style, which is mostly known as a building with good air circulation because of the amount of ventilation and window they have. Based on that, this study aims to measure the thermal comfort of each room with a different orientation in Museum Perkebunan Indonesia and then to examine the effect of thermal comfort in Museum Perkebunan Indonesia. Moreover, the study also discusses the material used in Museum Perkebunan Indonesia building. The methodology of this study is qualitative-descriptive by solving the existing problems based on quantitative data that is done by the measurement of air temperature that was carried out for six different days, starting from morning to evening. Furthermore, the study also analyses and describes the object research. The analysis itself shows that the orientation effect has a significant effect compared to the influence of building materials on the museum building. And the result of the analysis shows that Museum Perkebunan Indonesia Building falls into the uncomfortable category according to the Standard Procedure for Planning Energy Conservation in Buildings.

The researcher collected data from literature sources, observed the research area, and redrawn the two-dimensional façade model to identify, in general, the elements and composition of the façade of the research object. According to the findings, there is no special type that becomes the standard for the character of the shophouses in the two road corridors.
