Abstract

Climate change due to global warming is inevitable and will have a broad impact on many aspects of life. Changes in rainfall patterns, increased frequency of extreme weather events, and rising temperatures and sea levels are serious impacts of climate change that affect the agricultural sector. For Indonesia, the threat of climate change has serious implications for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. In Indonesia, changes in rainfall due to climate change disrupt water supply to various sectors, including agriculture. This is evident from the fact that the area of land that was previously suitable for rice cultivation decreased by 20% between 1990 and 2009. Changes in rainfall patterns that result in the transition of the dry season and rainy season make current rice cultivation patterns no longer suitable as they used to be.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the economic inhibiting factors for fishing families in the coastal area of ​​Bagan Percut Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. This research uses data analysis methods. Research results show that access to financial capital is one of the main challenges for fishermen in this region. The majority of fishermen depend on a loan system from local middlemen or "toke", which often provides fish selling terms and prices that are less favorable for fishermen. This causes fishermen to be trapped in a cycle of poverty and prolonged economic difficulties. The low level of education among fishermen has a significant impact on their ability to manage fisheries efficiently and increase the added value of their catch. Lack of knowledge and skills in post-harvest handling, marketing, and the adoption of modern fishing technology and practices are major obstacles in efforts to increase fishermen's productivity and income. Unpredictable weather conditions, limited access to modern technology and equipment, competition with large fishing industries, unsustainable natural resource management, and inadequate infrastructure are also significant economic inhibiting factors for fishing families in the Coastal Area of ​​Bagan Percut Village.

Abstract

This research aims to assess efforts to increase women's participation through home industry activities to improve economic welfare in Bandar Selamat, Medan Tembung District. It is noted that women's role in the family economy is often minimal and often depends on the husband's income. Based on Moser's empowerment theory, as quoted by Bogong Suyanto and Emy Susanti, women's empowerment is not about dominating men, but about increasing women's independence and internal strength. This research question covers the factors underlying women's empowerment in Bandar Selamat and the steps women take to improve the family economy. This research aims to identify these factors and evaluate the efforts made by women in the context of improving family economic welfare.
