Abstract

This paper is intended to identify the axis of the Sufism tendency of Imam Khomeini and  his  interpretation  of  irfani-isyari  (legal-gnostical).  In  view  of  Imam  Khomeini, inborn nature (fitrah) is considered as the main basic for self-knowledge (ma’rifat  al- nafs). According to him, irfan (gnostic) basically is the exegesis itself. And if the soul of irfan is fitrah and irfan is a form of Qur’anic exegesis, then the fitrah is also part of the core layer of gnostic interpretation. Through the observation of his works is enough to reveal the fact one of the layers of his intellectual personality as an interpreter who greatly  accentuate  spiritual  revelation.  He  believes  that  irfan  is  inseparable  from interpretation, because essentially, irfan is the interpretation itself. The naming of this irfan model is initiated from his mystical letters. It is known that all interpretations of Sufism and Imam Khomeini’s essence are essentially interpretations and explanations of verses of the Qur’an and hadith (tradition).

Abstract

AbstrakAlthough umat (ummah) has been standarized in the Indonesian vocabulary and will be easily found in the Qur’an, it seems that this term has not been commonly and uniquely emerging in the sociology and politics literatures in Bahasa Indonesia. As far as common sense and lexical meaning, the term of umat ordinarily connotes a kind of religious belief. However, how the concept of umat should be described in the view of the Quran? This paper examines that the islamic faith and thought could be an element that capture the diversity and differences of Muslim people into a core, i.e. the one umat (community) in its typical and complete sense encompassing a priori and a posteriori values. Kata-kata kunci: umat, pemimpin, individu, sosial, fitrah, mengenal-diri, apriori, aposteriori

Abstract

Muslim society today is experiencing an impasse in moral philosophy caused by the dominance of Ghazalian metaphysics. This especially occurs through a shallowing in the process of moral reasoning due to the endorsement that all moral values are absolute conventions of God and can only be accessed exclusively through the written word and spiritual guides. As a result, Muslims tend to be blunt, passive and reactionary in dealing with social problems that are increasingly dynamic in the midst of pluralism and intensive democratization. This condition must be responded to immediately by presenting an alternative moral philosophical paradigm that can overcome the shortcomings in the dominant view available. The moral philosophical views that will be explained are those constructed by Ayatullah Muhammad Taqi Mishbah Yazdi, a great Islamic philosopher from Iran. The research method used is literature study. The research results show that his thinking places ontology as a moral foundation and harmonizes reason with revelation simultaneously. Ayatullah Yazdi's system of moral philosophy has the potential to be an important subtitute in presenting a Muslim social scientific attitude that is critical but still dialogical in facing increasingly dynamic realities.

Abstract

The presence of a new technology can bring a novel perspective which then reopens old philosophical questions. Virtual reality, for example, recycles passion in the West over metaphysical topics. Fundamental questions regarding reality are coming back to life and attracting heated philosophical debates such as: How to define reality? What is the limit or scope of reality? Can we really reach or know true reality? David Chalmers, an Australian-American techno-philosopher, is a figure at the center of this field of study. He presents the concept of “virtual realism” to represent the view that all objects and environments in virtual reality are real and equal to everything else. This raises the question of how we should interpret all objects, actions, experiences and events in virtual reality and their relationship to non-virtual reality. The purpose of this research is to elaborate and analyze virtual realism as conceptualized by Chalmers. This research conducted a conceptual study to understand the arguments and theses put forward by Chalmers. The results of the research show that Chalmers constructed virtual realism using various realism arguments eclectically. Chalmers' ultimate argument says that as in non-virtual reality, there is also a degree of power and causality in virtual circumstances that can both influence and influence non-virtual reality.
