Abstract

There are times where human relationships with the surrounding environment takes place in a state of balance, so as not to cause pressure against him for human life. But there is also time to balance the relationship is disturbed by various events that often exceed the limits of human adaptability. This last condition arises either by events beyond human control, such as natural disasters or events that arise as a result of human engagement itself, such as over-exploitation of nature and creation of various technology products. The events that happened outside the human self has become a source of stress, which is sometimes understood as external conditions that suppress human adaptation and demanding, and sometimes also understood as a human response to external conditions, which showed special signs, either on the physical, psychological as well as on the visible behavior. Faced with the events that potentially lead to stress, humans need to do assessments leading to a positive attitude toward the stimulus. In addition it should also be developed in ways that help to achieve the adaptation that produces a good balance and lower levels of stress itself. Better anticipation can also be reached in which humans make important changes, mainly related to the views and treatment of the natural environment, and attitudes in developing and utilizing technology, especially related to the negative impacts caused.

Abstract

The study on the environment continuously attracted the attention of many people. The studies are generally based on a sense of concern over the condition of the natural environment and the future of mankind, that is an inseparable part of the natural environment as a whole. From the various existing studies, there is a rather pessimistic and also a more optimistic to look at the future of human beings in relation to the natural environment. One of the pessimistic conclusion is the result of a study conducted by Heilbroner, who  analyze a variety of facts and trends that continue to occur, ranging from the rapid increase in population of the world, environmental problems as well as the war, which was the unintended consequences could be avoided. From the results of his analysis Heilbroner finally came to the pessimists conclusion that no hope for the future of mankind. This conclusion has provoked a lot of debate, associated with the accuracy-related challenges he pointed out, as well as his pessimistic projection about the future of mankind. Based on the review conducted over this negative conclusion it is known that there are the possibility for human beings to be able to fix the situation, raise awareness, change attitudes, do something radically which gives positive impact to the safety of the environment. By making the study of Heilbroner  as a criticism and the triggers for the emergence of higher concern for the environment, we can hope that there is still hope for mankind to a better future.

Abstract

People have different perception about themselves, especially in the case of they are independent or interdependent people in their life. The article discussed the different of self concept related to cultural differences, especially between individual and collective cultures. The different concept on ?self? brings a big influence on cognitive development, motivation, and emotion. On the other hand, culture also has impacts on human behavior development, especially those related to locus of control and self esteem. Both individual and collective cultures have some impacts on to what extend a person can be a supervisor towards his own behavior. Locus of control can be available either in internal or external of a person. Collective culture is more supportive in achieving global self esteem, while individual culture more tends to achieve self competence, another aspect of self esteem. Related to the determination of the five-factor model personality that has been acknowledged as the basic of basic human personality, it can be concluded that culture, self, and personality can be built from human internal, combined by some inputs of his environment which play important role to activate those mechanism.
