Abstract

Introduction: Nasopharyngeal stenosis (NPS) is a very rare condition that is characterized by the obstruction of the nasopharynx by submucosal fibrotic tissue from the soft palate and posterior pahrynx. NPS has been reported as a complication of infectious diseases. NPS is frequently iatrogenic and caused by oropharyngeal surgeries. Case Report : A twenty eight years old female patient arrived at clinic with complaints of nasal obstruction, swallowing difficulty. She had  history of pharyngeal surgery. Conclusion: Nasopharyngeal stenosis is difficult to correct. Multiple surgeries may be required to relieve the obstruction. Standard operative techniques using the lateral pharyngeal flap and transpalatal or endoscopic intranasal approach were adapted to the clinical situation. Prolonged use of nasal stents is mandatory to produce a nasopharyngeal opening.

Abstract

Background: Missing a tooth can lead to reduced masticatory efficiency. The solution to this problem is to use a dental bridge. However, based on research conducted by Geiballa, it is known that there are patients who are dissatisfied with the masticatory function of their fixed dentures. Dissatisfaction can have a detrimental effect on patients. So it is necessary to evaluate patient satisfaction, which focuses on masticatory function, to find out more about the patient's opinion on dental bridge treatment. Objectives: To describe the level of satisfaction of dental bridge users with masticatory function at RSGM-P FKG Trisakti University. Methods: This type of research is observational descriptive with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted on 30 respondents who received dental bridge treatment at the negative room clinic of the RSGM-P FKG Trisakti University using a questionnaire. Results: The results showed that 90% of the patients were satisfied with the masticatory function of the dental bridge. Men who were satisfied were 94.6%, while women were only 84.6%. Based on age category, 100% of patients aged 17-25 years, 46-55 years, and 56-65 years were satisfied, while 81.8% aged 26-35 years and 75% aged 36-45 years. Based on the latest level of education, it is known that 100% of patients with primary education are satisfied, while 92.3% have secondary education, 71.4% have higher education. Conclusion: The majority of patients who receive bridge denture treatment at RSGM-P FKG Trisakti University are satisfied with their masticatory function.

Abstract

Management of dental emergencies focuses on immediate action to relieve pain and preserve injured tissue so that the condition does not get worse. Some of the causes of dental emergencies include pain due to inflammation of the dental nerve, bacterial infections that cause abscesses or swelling, broken or loose teeth due to falls or impacts. Dental emergencies can also occur with dental tools installed in the oral cavity, such as dentures or orthodontic wires, for example broken dentures or sharp orthodontic wires that can cause injuries to the soft tissue in the oral cavity. This empowerment activity aims to improve knowledge and ability to handle oral emergencies. This Community Service Activity was carried out by the Trisakti University Faculty of Dentistry Team for parents of students at Yasporbi I Elementary School, South Jakarta on February 16 2024. The method used was offline counseling using presentations regarding various emergency conditions in dentistry. Counseling was conducted on 13 participants for 60 minutes. Participants' knowledge was assessed with a pre-test and posttest using Google Form. From the results obtained, it can be seen that there has been an increase in the knowledge of the counseling participants by 25% (average pre-test score 8 and average post-test score 10).

Abstract

Background: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder characterized by breathing difficulties during sleep. Dentists play a crucial role in raising awareness about OSA and assisting patients in obtaining a diagnosis by providing accurate information. This necessitates using precise measurement tools to identify and assess sleep disorders in patients during dental visits. Objective: To determine the validity and reliability of a questionnaire regarding dentists' understanding of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) in Jakarta. Method: This study employed an analytical observational approach using a cross-sectional design. The sample included 220 dentists working in Jakarta's health centers, clinics, and hospitals. Data analysis was conducted using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test for normality test. Results: The correlation test results indicated that the questionnaire met the criteria for validity. The average Cronbach's Alpha value was 0.712, exceeding the minimum value of 0.60, indicating that the questionnaire used in this study is reliable and can accurately measure dentists' understanding of OSA. Conclusion: Research involving dentists aged 25-50 suggests that the questionnaire assessing the level of knowledge of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) demonstrates good accuracy and can be relied upon as a tool to evaluate dentists' comprehension of OSA.

Abstract

Background: Teeth play important role in the life of humans. Tooth loss may result in various anatomical, physiological and psychological changes on humans, including loss of self-confidence and  ability to interact socially. The causes of tooth loss generally include deteriorated tooth health and age factor. Fixed dental prosthesis is a solution to replace one lost natural tooth or more teeth and use of preformed temporary crown will keep the aesthetical and mastication function before a definitive crown is completed and placed. Objective: This research aims to explore the patient’s perception regarding the use of preformed temporary crown in fixed dental prosthesis treatment at the Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Pendidikan Universitas Trisakti. Method: This research is a descriptive observational research with cross sectional design which involved 30 patients at  RSGM-P USAKTI as respondents. Data were collected using google form by the respondents from February to June 2024. Results: Patient’s perception about toothache after cementation of temporary dental prosthesis (90%), difficulties in cleaning temporary dental prosthesis (93,3%), Gingival hemorrhage (90%), Gingival edema (90%), and oral odor (86,6%), majority respondents answered No. In the questions related to better food mastication (90%), speaking better (93,3%), comfort in using preformed temporary crown (90%), preformed temporary crown in predicting the results (90%), and majority of respondents (93.3%) reported increased self-confidence following the placement of fixed dental prostheses. Conclusion:  The patient's perception when wearing a temporary crown is quite good, so it can provide an idea when using a definitive crown in fixed dental prosthesis treatment.
