Abstract

The richness of genetic resources in Papua Province, with its various potentials, has not been studied and utilized in a sustainable manner in order to reduce and prevent germplasm genetic erosion. Thus, optimal management of germplasm is an inseparable part of efforts to maintain genetic resources in order to sustain genetic resources. One of them is the lesser yam which has high cultural value because it is used in traditional ceremonies and is also used as a wedding dowry and as a complement in traditional ceremonies. This means that the cultivation of lesser yam has been integrated into the life of the Papuan people. This study aims to examine several water media on the growth response of young shoots and roots of gembili plants as a cultivation technique to shorten the dormancy period and produce planting material or gembili seeds from Serui Papua. The study was conducted for two months utilizing the Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method which consisted of two treatments, namely immersion in sterile water/aqua/water and well water, the treatment was repeated three times, thus, six experimental units were obtained. From the observations, it can be concluded that using the cultivation technique of soaking tubers with sterile water or aqua water can shorten the dormancy period and increase planting material or gembili (Dioscorea esculenta L.) seeds from Serui Papua. The results of data analysis prove that the application of water media has a significant effect on the growth of shoots and roots on gembili tubers. The comparison of aqua water treatment and well water showed consistency where aqua water treatment expressed the average number of shoots and number of roots at 4 WAP, more than the average of the two parameters in the well water treatment at 5 WAP. It is recommended for further research using the same treatment and other alternative water growing media by extending the observation time.

Abstract

This study aims to study soil fertility status, determine land suitability status and provide recommendations for land suitability for cocoa cultivation based on land suitability evaluation in 6 (six) villages in North Manokwari District based on its slopes. The 6 (six) villages in the research location such as Pami, Mandopi, Sairo, Bremi, Yoom, and Lebau. The study lasted for approximately three (3) months, from March to May 2019. The results showed that the soil fertility status at the study site on a slope of 0-8% (SPT 1) was classified as moderately fertile. The slope of 8-15% (SPT 2) and the slope of 15-25% (SPT 3) were quite fertile. The land suitability status for SPT1 land was actually categorized as marginal (S3), but it can be upgraded to a potential land suitability class of S2 with some improvements. SPT 2 land is actually categorized as marginal (S3) and quite suitable (S2), which can be increased to potential land suitability classes S2 and S1. SPT 3 land is actually categorized according to marginal (S3) and quite suitable (S2), but can be increased to potential land suitability classes S2 and S1. Recommended land potential for cocoa plant development are on SPT 2 land with a slope of 8-15%, namely in Lebau Village, Yoom, Mandopi; and SPT 3 with a slope of 15-25%, namely Lebau, Sairo, Pami.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the growth and production response of Allium fistolosum to the application of various doses of sago dregs compost and to determine the appropriate dose of sago dregs compost for it cultivation in polybags. This research was designed in Randomized Block Design (RAK) consisting of 4 doses of sago dregs compost treatments. The results showed that different doses of sago dregs compost had a significant effect on the growth and yield of Allium fistolosum. The dose of sago dregs compost with a dose of 600 g gave the highest yield on the parameters of observing plant height, stem diameter, and plant fresh weight.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the effects of the peel extract of red dragon fruit on the quality of tomato fruit during storage. Twenty one tomato fruits were immerced in the peel extract with concentrations of 0% (T0), 25% (T1), 50% (T2) and 100% (T3), where T0 to T3 represented the various treatment groups. Three fruits in each treatment were then randomly selected every two days, for quality analysis. The results showed that fruits from group T3 experienced lower weight loss when compared to T0, T1 and T2. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the total soluble solids, and this indicates that the extract had no effect on fruit sweetness. Interestingly, fruits from T3 did not show any damage caused by fungus. In conclusion, the extract of red dragon fruit peel has antioxidant potential, which can be useful for food storage.

Abstract

Mustard consumption increases due to population growth, therefore it is necessary to increase its yield. One of the cultivation techniques to increase the growth and yield of green mustard can be done by the right plant spacing. This study aims to examine several plant spacings in two planting periods on the growth and yield of green mustard. The research was carried out from April to June 2020, at the Experimental Field of Agriculture Faculty Papua University, Manokwari, West Papua. This study was laid in a Randomized Block Design (RAK), with 3 spacing treatments, namely 25 cm x 15 cm, 25 cm x 20 cm and 25 cm x 30 cm. Each treatment was repeated 5 times. The data was analyzed using analysis of variance at the 95% confidence level, and if it had a significant effect, it was continued with the Least Significant Difference Test (BNT) at the 95% level. To see the comparison of mustard yield between the first and second studies, tabulated analysis was used. The results of the first and second studies showed that the three treatments tested had a significant and very significant effect on the character of plant weight per plant, per plot, and yield per hectare. The 25 cm x 15 cm plant spacing resulted in the highest yield per plot or per hectare. Plant spacing of 25 cm x 15 cm was 12 tons/ha produced the highet yield. On the other hand, a spacing of 25 cm x 30 cm produced the highest yield per plant. The growth and yield components decreased in the second study, except at a spacing of 25 cm x 15 cm which capable of producing 10 tons/ha.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the appropriate application time interval of rabbit urine POC to support optimal growth and production of mustard greens. This study used an experimental method designed using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments, including W0 (control), W1 (treated with 60 ml/L rabbit urine every 1 week), W2 (treated with 60 ml of rabbit urine /L every 2 weeks), and W3 (treated with 60 ml/L rabbit urine fertilizer every 3 weeks). Variables observed in this study included growth variables consisting of plant height, number of leaves, leaf width, and leaf length at 1 – 6 WAP, as well as production variables in the form of wet stover weight per plant (grams) and plant consumption weight (grams) at 6 WAP. The data obtained were analyzed by ANOVA and if it had a significant effect then continued by the Tukey test at the 95% level of confidence. The results of the study showed that the time interval treatment for application of POC rabbit urine only had a significant effect on the variable number of leaves, leaf length, and leaf width at 6 WAP and plant consumption weight. The time interval application of 2 weeks (W2) rabbit urine POC tend to give better results than other time interval treatments in almost all observation variables.

Abstract

This study used a Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor was planting media (M) which consisted of three categories, namely: topsoil (M0), mixed soil and goat manure with a ratio of 2:1 (M1), soil and chicken manure with a ratio 2:1 (M2). The second factor was foliar fertilizer (P), which consisted of no foliar fertilizer (P0) and application of gandasil D fertilizer (P1). The results showed that the M0 treatment had a significant effect on the weight of the pods and the fresh weight of the plant, but did not have a significant effect on the plant height, the number of branches and the flowering time. The application of gandasil D has no significant effect on all observed variables. The combination of media type and gandasil D had a significant effect on plant height at 3 WAP in the M2P1 treatment, the number of pods in the M2P1 treatment, the weight of the pods planted in the M0P1, M0P0 treatments, and the fresh pod weight in the M0P0, M2P1, M1P0 treatments, but had no significant effect on plant height, number of branches and flowering time. In the observed variables of pod weight and fresh pod weight, the application of animal manure gave a good response to the availability of nutrients that can be absorbed by plants.
