Abstract

The problem in this study is "How is the ability of students to write descriptive text?" The purpose of this study was to describe the abilities of students in writing descriptive text. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method for data collected in writing descriptive text. The population in this study is all class XI students of SMAN 5 Lubuklinggau. The sample of this research is XI F4, totalling 35 students who were taken by class using random sampling. Based on the results of writing descriptive text in class XI students of SMAN 5 Lubuklinggau are included in the failed category. The average value of students is 57. There are 4 students (13%) "Very Good", 7 students (24%) are in the "Good" category, 8 students (27%) are included in the "Medium" category, 10 students (34%) are in the "Moderate" category. It means that the student's ability to write descriptive text is included in the failed category. In conclusion, the ability of students to write descriptive texts is still not very good about grammar, vocabulary and grammar.

Abstract

This research aimed (1) to find out the difficulty of speaking English based on gender at SMP IT An-Nida' Lubuklinggau and (2) to find out the causes of difficulty speaking English based on gender at SMP IT An-Nida' Lubuklinggau. This research used the qualitative descriptive method. The subjects in this study were classes VIII.1 and VIII.2 with the purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques include questionnaires and interviews. In data analysis techniques, researchers use three steps: 1) data reduction, 2) data display, and 3) conclusion. The results of this research showed that most of the respondents experienced difficulties speaking English. (1) difficulties in pronunciation, lack of grammar, difficulty to memorize vocabulary, and their English is not very fluent. (2) Furthermore, the causes of students' difficulties from the research are lack of confidence, anxiety, fear of speaking, embarrassment to speak in front of the class, fear of speaking English incorrectly, and fear of making mistakes. difficulties in speaking English based on gender (1) Most females have difficulties in pronunciation, while (2) males have difficulties in grammar and vocabulary. From the results of the questionnaires, the scores of female students were 14,28% while the score of male students 66,66% of students had difficulty speaking English.. This indicates that male students are more difficult to speak English than female students.

Abstract

Abstract This research aimed to analyze errors in order to obtain kinds, differences and causes of error between male and female students in changing active to passive voice. Sample of this research was the twelfth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau. The method of the research was qualitative descriptive research. The researcher used test and interview as the technique to collect the data. In analyzing the data, the researcher used four steps were: first, collecting the data, second is identifying the data, third, describing data and finally, the researcher explains the data. The results showed that there are four kinds of error made by male students in changing active to passive are; Misformation errors with 68.84%, Misordering 21.34% Omission 8.70%, and Addition 0.72%. On the other hand, there are only 3 kinds of error made by female students are; Misformation error 53.47%, Misordering 29.37%, Omission 17.16%. From the result of written test, the differences between male and female students in changing active to passive voice is male students tend to make more error than female students. In addition, the researcher found three causes of error made by male and female students in this analysis namely; interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer and communication strategies. In conclusion, this research showed that there are 4 kinds of error and 3 causes of errors between male and female students, and male students tend to make more errors than female students in changing active to passive voice.
