Abstract

Patients who are receiving treatment at the ICU have at least one symptom of gastrointestinal dysfunction including decreased bowel noise, abdominal distension, constipation, decreased frequency of defecation, and increased GRV (gastric residual volume). Non-pharmacological interventions that can be done to improve gastrointestinal function include abdominal massage. This paper aimed to conduct a literature review on the effects of abdominal massage to overcome gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients in the ICU. Articles taken from the Google Scholar and Science Direct electronic databases with the keywords abdominal massage, gastrointestinal function, bowel function, and ICU were published from 2015 to 2019. There were four research articles discussing abdominal massage to improve gastrointestinal function. Three articles used the Randomized Controlled Design method and one article used the Quasi Experimental method. Abdominal massage has a positive effect to improve gastrointestinal function in patients receiving treatment in the ICU. Improved gastrointestinal function that can be seen from the existence of a faster time in the reduction in gastric residual volume (GRV), decreased abdominal circumference, decreased gastric distension, and decreased the incidence of constipation. It is expected that abdominal massage can be applied by ICU nurses considering this intervention has the effectiveness in terms of time and funding. Keywords: Abdominal Massage, Gastrointestinal Function, Intensive Care Unit

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model in improving elementary school students’ learning outcomes and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation during the learning process. This study employed a qualitative method with a literature review approach. The data were obtained from various relevant sources such as books, scientific journals, research articles, and academic documents related to the Teams Games Tournament learning model and elementary school students’ learning outcomes. Data collection techniques were conducted through documentation studies and content analysis, while data analysis was carried out by collecting, reviewing, comparing, and classifying information based on the research themes. The results showed that the use of the Teams Games Tournament model was able to create an active, interactive, and enjoyable learning atmosphere, thereby improving students’ motivation and learning outcomes in elementary schools. This model also improved students’ cooperation, responsibility, communication, and participation during the learning process. In addition, the implementation of the TGT model helped students understand the material more easily because the learning process was packaged through group discussions, educational games, and academic tournaments. Supporting factors in implementing the TGT model included teacher creativity, the use of attractive learning media, and active student participation. Meanwhile, the obstacles found included differences in students’ abilities, limited learning time, and teachers’ readiness in implementing innovative learning models. Therefore, the Teams Games Tournament model can be used as an effective alternative learning model to improve elementary school students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

Parental involvement in children's learning processes in elementary school plays a crucial role in supporting their academic success and social-emotional development. This study aims to analyze the influence of parental involvement on children's learning processes in elementary school and the forms of support that can be provided to support student learning success. The research method used was a literature study by collecting various reference sources in the form of journals, books, and previous research results relevant to the research topic. The results of the study indicate that parental involvement has a positive impact on children's learning motivation, academic achievement, communication skills, and character development. Support provided by parents can take the form of learning assistance at home, providing motivation, providing learning facilities, active communication with teachers, and attention to children's learning needs. In addition, good cooperation between schools and families can create a conducive learning environment so that children are more confident and have a high enthusiasm for learning. Conversely, a lack of parental attention and involvement can lead to low learning motivation and decreased student academic achievement. Therefore, active parental involvement needs to be continuously improved through effective communication and good collaboration with the school so that children's academic and non-academic development can be achieved optimally. This research is expected to be a reference for parents and educators in improving the quality of children's learning in elementary schools.
