Abstract

Instagram has become a new lifestyle in recent years. Instagram has created a society without borders because its users and followers are not limited to places. Instagram users post creative photos and videos on their accounts not only for advertising but also network orientation. Millennial generation tends to use the internet in all aspects of life. This paper aims to pay attention to: 1) How about the model and strategy of the Millennial Muslim network in aisnusantara; and 2) How they explain the importance of religious moderation in digital media. This qualitative research uses a netnographic approach based on data from the @aisnusantara Instagram account. With the ethno-semiotic method, this research reveals that: 1) Aisnusantara uses a networking management model from the national to regional levels, and has an annual meeting, namely the Kopdarnas which has an agenda to discuss various issues related to national and religious affairs for the millennial generation. 2) Aisnusantara campaigned for Islamic preaching inclusively through Instagram, for example against extremism on social media, by offering alternative narratives to counter extremism by campaigning for peaceful Islam based on religious moderation.

Abstract

Abstract One of the environmental problems faced by pondok pesantren is the health and the environment problem arising from the plastics and dioxins waste from disposable sanitary napkins (DSN). This problem is mainly rooted from the woman’s low awareness of the scientific facts and side effects of DSN waste. This condition is indicated from the imbalance in power relations between men and women and media advertisement. Considering this cause, a number of menstrual product activisms emerge to support women in controlling their bodies. By utilising the Critical Discourse Analysis improved by Norman Fairclough (1992), this research observes two areas: (1) to unfold the agency of female figures in Pesantren Annuqayah in dealing with DSN issues and (2) to articulate their agency and activism from the point of view of ecofeminism. This research finds, first, that by banning DSN and issuing fatwa against DSN, the female figures in this pesantren negotiated to reproduce a new relation of power and domination between (a) sanitary industries and propagandas of media that prioritize capitalists’ interests and ignore long term reproductive health and environmental sustainability and (b) the patriarchal tradition in pesantren that subordinated women voices. Second, by insisting that women have control over their bodies and environmental sustainability, these women’s agency conforms to ecofeminist ethics that assert the interconnectedness between environmental and women’s issues.

Abstract

This study examines the conflict in establishing houses of worship in Indonesia and the problems faced with PBM policies No. 9 and 8 of 2006. This research is purely a literature study using a qualitative approach. The government guarantees freedom of religion and performs worship according to their religion. Unfortunately, in PBM Numbers 9 and 8 of 2006, the policy of establishing houses of worship in its implementation takes work. The problem of establishing places of worship occurs due to the government's need for more socialization with the public regarding policies for the establishment of houses of worship, bureaucratic policies that tend to be discriminatory, and local religious leaders. Its are not involved in Such policies can potentially lead to the dualism of authority, unclear policies can lead to multiple interpretations, and in the perspective of human rights, these policies ignore human rights. Therefore, the government needs to reorganize or deconstruct the policy for establishing houses of worship in PBM Numbers 9 and 8 of 2006 so that there will be no conflict over establishing places of worship in the future.

Abstract

This paper aims to explore the integration of traditional and modern Islam in nganggung tradition of Bangka society. Nganggung is a customary practice of bringing food with specific procedures and attributes to commemorate important Islamic holidays. It existed for a long time as a tradition in Bangka conducted by traditionalists. Recently, modernists also participated in the event, making nganggung a melting pot that blends traditionalists and modernists. While associated with traditional Islam, this practice has also involved modern practices. The research was carried out in Kemuja and Kenanga villages on Bangka Island, using interviews, participatory observation, and a literature review. It addresses three key questions: How is local wisdom in the nganggung tradition expressed in contemporary Bangka society? How can this wisdom strengthen ties between traditional and modern Islam? What is the role of maqāṣid asy-syarī’ah in sustaining this wisdom for lasting harmony? Findings show modernists' participation arises from respect for traditional Islam. While nganggung has adapted to include all groups, changes remain minor. It continues to unite society, sustained by Islamic values and maqāṣid asy-syarī’ah.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to discuss the dynamics of the understanding of dayah scholars towards Qanun Number 3 of 2016 concerning the Implementation of Entertainment in Langsa City. Qonun was born as a response to public anxiety about the phenomenon of mushrooming entertainment venues and sources of violence among the people of Langsa city. However, what particulary interesting is whether this qanun is accepted by all segments of society, especially by dayah or Acehnese ulama. This study is empirical juridical research. The data collection techniques used in this study were interviews and documentation. Meanwhile, the analysis technique employed is descriptive. This research is conducted in Langsa City, where the Islamization movement is strongly embedded in public spaces and governance. The informants of this research included dayah scholars, chairpersons or members of the Ulema Consultative Assembly (MPU) Langsa city, as well as residents of Langsa city. An important finding of this study is the differing views among dayah scholars on the qanun issued by the Langsa City government, particularly Qanun Number 3 of 2016 regarding the implementation of entertainment in Langsa City. Some scholars approve and support the qanun, while others do not support or see a need for it. The influence of dayah ulama on Qanun Number 3 of 2016 is significant and has support from the people of Langsa city, Consequently, the opinions or fatwas expressed by dayah ulama in the community are considered authoritative and must be followed.

Abstract

In response to environmental degradation, Muslims worldwide have been developing Green Islam and Eco- Theology. This article focuses on Indonesia, particularly on Muhammadiyah members. The authors advocate an empirical approach, based on an analysis of the beliefs of Muslims rather than on the source texts of Islam. Terms frequently used by Muslims to refer to the relationship between humans and nature is “steward” and “stewardship”. By conducting interviews, the authors aim to get a deeper insight into how these terms are used in constructing Green Islam. Interviewees say on the one hand that “all creatures are the same”, on the other hand, that humans act “as stewards, as leaders” of nature. This ambiguity raises a dilemma for Eco-Theology in Indonesian Islam: between deep ecology and eco-modernity. The interviewees, however, also see a need to go beyond this dichotomy, by moderation and balancing, or the Middle Path. The Middle Path is a life orientation that promotes “harmony between humankind, the rest of nature and the Transcendent.”
