Abstract

This article analyzes the postmodern philosophical ideas of three main thinkers, namely Friederich Nietzsche, Jacques Derrida, and Michel Foucault through which several serious consequences are faced for the study of Christian theology today. Postmodernism's critique and attack on the absolute truth claims of modernism also have an impact on the concept of Christian theology. These impacts result in the dismantling of the authority of God's word, confusion, lack of purpose and meaning in contemporary human life. This research uses a literature study with a descriptive qualitative method. Data analysis uses philosophical hermeneutics which includes interpretation, descriptive and comparative studies. The results of this study indicate that the idea of postmodernism has resulted in: The rejection of the monopoly of truth claims that have an impact on cultural superiority, the emergence of pluralism and relativism, the absence of absolute meaning in the biblical text, and the free play of interpretation of biblical texts. A number of these consequences are challenges that need to be addressed immediately.

Abstract

Abstract. This article examines the concept of the the Social Gospel’ mission as a dialectical effort to find its relevance to the mission of the church today. Through this article the author presents the main ideas of the Social Gospel as a critique of the church's mission approach regarding social problems. The method used in this paper is a literature study. Through this study, the result is that Social Gospel theology which emphasizes the preaching of the Kingdom of God makes it against to conservative theology. However, the Social Gospel mission approach can be a critique to the conservative mission approach, so that the mission paradigm can be further expanded, not only paying attention to futuristic personal salvation, but also caring about social salvation today.

Abstract

Abstract. Meaning is correlated with actual actions, both in communication and ideology and social relations, so that the issue of meaning is now the focus of contemporary scientific study and criticism. The Christian faith, which specifically constructs a system of theology, worldview and ethics based on Biblical texts, is also faced with the challenge of interpreting the meaning of Biblical texts. From this struggle, this article discusses the issue of semantic theory from three perspectives, namely: structuralism, post-structuralism, and evangelical theology. Through this article, the author aimed to analyze semantic issues so that it is hoped that it will be able to present appropriate semantic constructions for approaches to Christian hermeneutics and theology in facing existing challenges. The method used was literature study. The results of this research showed that there are several similarities between the semantic theory of structuralism and Christian theology which is characterized by a constructive approach to meaning with several important notes. On the other hand, these two approaches are not in line with the semantic pattern of post-structuralism which is deconstructive, radical and tends to be agnostic.

Abstract

Abstract

The discourse on the integration of theology and psychology in the context of pastoral counseling remains a contentious issue within the evangelical tradition. Some theologians and pastoral practitioners endorse an integrative approach with adjustments to certain components, while others reject such integration efforts due to concerns about potential distortions of Christian faith, morality, and worldview. This article is situated within the framework of integrative thought, with several theoretical considerations that the author assumes may be beneficial for pastoral ministry, particularly in the field of counseling. The nature of this research draws on theoretical discourse grounded in grounded theory, thus employing conceptual and integrative analysis through a literature review. The research data draws on primary and secondary references from academically representative experts. While the results of this study indicate that efforts toward an integrative approach between theology and psychology remain open for exploration, they are currently limited to comparative studies regarding the use of information, diagnostic findings, and therapeutic methods in psychology that align with a biblical approach for the application of pastoral counseling. However, certain fundamental aspects—such as worldview, philosophy, and methods within the realm of modern psychology—cannot be integrated

Abstract

Human culture and its components move dynamically according to the trend of philosophical ideas that drive it. The existence of the church, which is also the subject and object of culture, is also conditioned on it. In the present context, postmodern philosophy and culture pose severe challenges to the church in two categories: it's cultural product components and philosophical ideas. These two issues are the subject of research that the author examines in this article to describe the challenges of postmodern culture and philosophy for the church. The research method used by the author is descriptive qualitative, with the study of primary and secondary data sources using literature studies and phenomenal hermeneutics. The results of this study indicate that postmodern philosophy and culture have seriously impacted the church today. Postmodern philosophical ideas radically reject claims of absolute truth and challenge the nature of language and the principles of traditional Christian hermeneutics. Meanwhile, its cultural products affect the practical application of church services to the lifestyle of God's people, both positively and negatively.

Abstract

The concept of logos in the Christian faith does not only refer to theological ideas but also touches on the issue of the Christian worldview which as a whole refers to Christ as its centrality. The concept is suspected of being a form of logocentrism (grand narrative) that forms polarization and negation of the external world. Through deconstruction readings, contemporary cultural critics criticize Christian logocentrism. The purpose of reading deconstruction is to change the general understanding, both in philosophy, science, and Christian theology strategies regarding logos with two critical approaches. First, criticizing semantics in terms of logos and second, criticizing the politics of the text through which ideology is constructed and has implications for socio-cultural subordination. This article analyzes and reconstructs logos theology and christology in an attempt to address the challenges of deconstruction. The method used by the writer is descriptive analysis and literature review. The results showed that the concept of Christian logos theology was different from Greek philosophy. In relation to the theory of deconstruction, the bivalence system which is the pattern of the semantic system of logos theology provides strict limits on the meaning system so that the assumptions of deconstruction criticism are irrelevant. Meanwhile, the logos christology approach in biblical studies provides answers to the issue of logocentrism in both theological, literary and Christian epistemological contexts. Logos, Logosentrisme, Dekonstruksi.
