Abstract

The granting of forest use rights by the central government to private and state companies, at a later stage creates inequality for residents around the forest. Those who incidentally are the recipients of the earliest ecological damage do not get many opportunities to participate in reaping the resources around them. No wonder, if the economic condition of the surrounding population is still below the poverty line. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) established a program, social forestry. This is an effort to provide legal access to land management in the state forest area of 12.7 million hectares to the community. Based on this description, this article will reveal the extent to which social forestry programs have a positive impact on the environment, both human and natural. As an analytical tool, Abdul Mustaqim’s maqashidi interpretation is projected to explore the maqashidiyah dimensions (maqashid al-Qur’an and maqashid shari’ah) of social forestry by referring to several verses that talk about the theme. For the conclusions, the social forestry program is able to represent the maqashid dimensions of the Qur’an on the freedom and responsibility values. In the maqashid shari’ah dimension, it’s cooperative as an effort to protect the soul (hifdz al-Nafs and protect the environment (hifdz al-bi’ah)

Abstract

The interpretation of Ruhullah Khomeini which is agreed upon as a Sufistic interpretation is interesting for further discussion. This paper attempts to explore Imam Khomeini’s hermenutics, starting from his paradigm of the Qur’an and its exegesis, then examines his theory of allegorical interpretation by looking at how it produces new meanings that go beyond the literal meaning of the text or reach esoteric meanings, especially in terms of al-raḥmān and al-raḥīm. This paper use Paul Ricoeur’s interpretation theory as a thinking partner to find the idea of a surplus meaning that inhernt in every single text, including the Qur’anic text. This research finds three main points: Imam Khomeini’s idea on the diversity of meanings as a logical consequence from the premise that the Qur’an has two meanings, exoteric and esoteric; allegorical interpretation of Imam Khomeini which is explained discursively depicting a Sufistic-philosophical face and colored by Shia ideology; the interpretation of the terms al-raḥmān and al-raḥīm presents the concept of wujūdīyah (the existence) as a result of synthesis from the concepts of previous philosophers, especially Ibn ‘Arabī and Mulla Sadra. The diversity of meanings of al-raḥmān and al-raḥīm shown in Imam Khomeini’s interpretation from several views and his personal synthesis, includes: the two terms are interpreted the same and the repetition is only confirmation, meaning compassion and kindness, the Names and Attributes of Allah that reach the level of existence and manifestation.

Abstract

This article examines the ontological and epistemological foundations of H.O.S. Tjokroaminoto’s interpretation of sacred texts, as well as his hermeneutical commitment to the Quran as a project of knowledge and structural decolonization. As a prominent figure in the Indonesian Islamic political movement in the early twentieth century, Tjokro synthesized nationalism, socialism, and religiosity into an anti-colonial framework of thought. Living under the shadow of Western colonialism and capitalism, he sought to construct an antithesis to colonial hegemony through the Sarekat Islam (SI) movement and intellectual discourse based on Quranic values. Employing qualitative research with a hermeneutical approach to a range of Tjokroaminoto’s intellectual artifacts, this study finds that Tjokroaminoto interpreted the Quran from two interrelated perspectives: theologically, as a form of obedience and submission to divine revelation, and sociologically, as a moral and political imperative to free humans from oppression. His interpretation reflects a praxis-oriented epistemology rooted in the basic values of Islamic socialism, namely unity of the people, with four hermeneutic keys structured around four hermeneutical principles: equality, brotherhood, independence, and the cultivation of democratic ideals. Tjokroaminoto’s hermeneutics presents a reading that transcends dogmatic and textual boundaries, transforming the Quran into both a theological foundation and a political manifesto for liberation. Through this perspective, the Quran emerges as a living and dynamic text that inspires social change and national awakening.
