Abstract

This research’s purposes are to explain the types of figures of speech used and what are the functions of those used by the author in the novel I Will Be Here with You. This research utilizes the qualitative descriptive method. The data resource is the novel itself entitled I Will Be Here with You. The data collection technique is documentation. The results of the study found as many as 12 types of figures of speech used, namely 比喻 (bǐyù) makes abstract things seem concrete, visualizes things more generally, 比拟 (bǐnǐ) gives a clear impression, helps readers understand the conveyed feelings, 夸张 (kuāzhāng) evokes strong resonance strong and imagination, accentuates elements and characteristics in the novel, 婉曲 (wǎnqū) makes it easier to accept what is written, 对偶 (duì'ǒu) gives a strong sense of rhythm and focused meaning, helps readers draw conclusions effectively, 排比 (páibǐ) increases language momentum and expression effect, emphasizes meanings, 层递(céngdì) deepens understanding and impression, 顶真 (dǐngzhēn) gives fluent expression, fresh writing style or unique writing form, 对比 (duìbǐ) accentuates thoughts, 反复 (fǎnfù) emphasizes main thoughts, written in order , has a strong sense of rhythm, 设问 (shewèn) captures attention and guides the readers’ mind, 反问 (fǎnwèn) evokes feelings.Keywords: Novel, Figures of Speech

Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of language styles and the factors in language style usage used in the film The battle at Changjin Lake directed by Cheng kai ge, Tsui Hark and Dante lam. Language style is a way of expressing thoughts through language in a unique way by choosing appropriate words and combining them in certain sentence structures, in order to create new and fresh ways of conveying. The design of this study is descriptive qualitative with documentation data collection techniques. The results of the data analysis show that there are 6 types of language styles, namely 3 styles of Jièdài (Metonymic), 7 styles of Fǎnwèn (Erotesis), 2 styles of Duì'ǒu (Antithesis), 1 style of Páibǐ (Parallelism), 4 styles of Fǎnfù ( Repetition), 3 styles of Shè wèn (Rhetorical) . The style of language most often used is Fǎnwèn (Erotesis). The results of the data analysis also show that the factors causing the usage of these language styles in the film are a person's identity, work, external environment, mood, time and location. The factor that causes the most language style usage is the external environment, so that the audience can feel that environment.Keywords: Film, Language Style, The Battle of Chang Lake

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the types of language errors and the factors that cause them in the use of the verbs jùyǒu and yōngyǒu in Mandarin essays in the seventh semester of STBA-PIA T.A. 2020/2021. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research design to achieve the research objectives. The subjects of this research were 40 students. The data collection techniques used are documentation techniques to determine the types of language errors and interview techniques to determine the factors that cause these language errors. This research obtained results showing that there were four types of errors made by students of the fourth year Chinese literature study program STBA-PIA Medan semester VII, namely subtraction errors of 1 sentence (1.2%), addition errors of 7 sentences (8 .2%), replacement errors were 74 sentences (87.1%) and sequencing errors were 3 sentences (3.5%), where replacement errors were the highest type of error among the four types of errors. Apart from that, the factors causing errors in using the verbs jùyǒu and yōngyǒu can be divided into two, namely interlingual factors as many as 3 people (30%) and intralingual factors as many as 7 people (70%).
