Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by TB germs. Adherence to treatment requires the patient's active participation in self-care management and collaboration between the patient and the health care provider. One way that can be done to improve compliance is with a daily reminder using audio-visual media. To find out how the daily reminder audio-visual effect on medication adherence in patients with tuberculosis. This research is a Quasi Experimental two Group Pre-Posttest Design with control group in May 2021 with 60 respondents in the working area of ??the Garuda Puskesmas Bandung City. Medication adherence was measured using the MMAS (Morisky Medication Adherence Scale) questionnaire with 8 question items. The description of the level of adherence to taking medication in the intervention group before being given an audio-visual daily reminder showed a low level of adherence (score <6) as many as 28 respondents (93.3%) and after being given the daily audio-visual reminder it increased to moderate adherence as many as 12 respondents. (40.0%) and high compliance 12 respondents (40.0%). The level of adherence to taking medication in the control group before being given the intervention showed low adherence by 15 respondents (50.0%) and after being given the leaflet the level of adherence remained in the low category as many as 13 respondents (43.3%). The results of this study indicate that there is a significant effect of the results of the daily reminder audio-visual intervention on medication adherence in tuberculosis patients

Abstract

Aims: Pulmonary Tuberculosis is a disease caused by  Mycobacterium tuberculosis that invades the lungs. Indonesia ranks second as the country with the highest number of pulmonary TB in the world.  The treatment coverage of Pulmonary TB in Indonesia in 2022 is only 25% of the target (80%). One of the risk factors that cause treatment failure is medication adherence. Objective:  This study aims to determine the factors that influence medication adherence in patients with pulmonary TB.  Methods:  This study used a quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional study on 33 patients with pulmonary TB who became respondents by using total sampling. This study uses more than one instrument including Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8, Generic Assessment of Side Effects, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. The  data analysis that  were used in this study are Pearson Product Moment, Chi-square, Kruskal-wallis, and Simple Linear Regression. Results:  The results of this study on factors related to medication adherence on TB patients showed that age, level of education, duration of treatment, drug side effects, and family support were related to medication adherence of pulmonary TB patients. alone. Conclusion: This study showed that to achieve medication adherence requires the continuity of various factors and does not depend on one factor Future researchers  are expected to examine other factors that can affect medication adherence in patients with Pulmonary TB.

Abstract

Background: Population aging continues to intensify the demand for comprehensive geriatric nursing assessments, particularly in primary care and community health settings. In many contexts, these assessments are still performed manually, which can be time-consuming, prone to documentation errors, and difficult to integrate into ongoing care planning. Digital screening tools may help address these challenges; however, their effectiveness largely depends on usability and user experience among frontline nurses. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the usability and user experience of the Geriatric Care Screening Tool, a digital application developed to support geriatric nursing assessments, from the perspective of nurse users. Methods: A usability and user experience evaluation study was conducted using a descriptive quantitative design within a user-centered development framework. Twenty nurses involved in geriatric nursing services participated in the evaluation. User needs were explored through a focus group discussion (FGD), followed by expert content validation of the application. Usability was assessed using the System Usability Scale (SUS), while user experience was evaluated using the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). Data were analyzed descriptively and interpreted using established benchmark standards. Results: The mean SUS score was 70.38, indicating marginally acceptable usability with a “Good” adjective rating. UEQ results showed positive user experience across all dimensions. The highest scores were observed in Clarity (1.75), Accuracy (1.20), and Stimulation (1.04). Lower scores were identified in Attractiveness (0.73), Efficiency (0.86), and Novelty (0.65), suggesting areas that require further improvement, particularly related to interface design, navigation speed, and innovative features. Conclusion: The Geriatric Care Screening Tool demonstrated acceptable usability and a generally positive user experience among nurses. While the application meets basic functional requirements for geriatric nursing assessment, further refinement—particularly in efficiency, visual design, and innovation—is needed to optimize its use in clinical and community practice.

Abstract

Background: Older adults living in nursing homes experience environmental and social conditions that differ from those of community-dwelling elderly individuals, which may negatively affect cognitive function and psychosocial well-being, including mood. Non-pharmacological interventions that simultaneously address cognitive and emotional health are therefore needed in long-term care settings. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of square stepping exercise accompanied by music in improving cognitive function and mood status among elderly individuals residing in nursing homes. Methods: A quasi-experimental study using a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted among 33 elderly participants selected through purposive sampling. Cognitive function was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and mood status was evaluated using the Brief Mood Introspection Scale (BMIS). The intervention consisted of square stepping exercise performed for 30 minutes per session, three times per week, over a four-week period. Data were analyzed using paired statistical tests. Results: The mean baseline MMSE score was 23.8 ± 2.17, and the mean BMIS score was 38.1 ± 4.97. Significant improvements were observed in both cognitive function and mood status following the intervention (p < 0.05 for both outcomes). Conclusion: Square stepping exercise accompanied by music effectively enhances cognitive function and mood status among elderly individuals living in nursing homes. This intervention may serve as a feasible and beneficial non-pharmacological strategy to support the overall well-being of older adults in institutional care.
