Abstract

Menghadapi keterbaruan ilmu pengetahuan, perputakaan umum hendaknya siap menyediakan koleksi yang terbaru dan berkualitas. Pembaharuan koleksi tentunya diimbangi dengan ketersediaan ruang rak, tetapi banyak ditemui perpustakaan umum dengan kondisi rak sangat padat dan beberapa usang atau kurang layak masih dilayanankan. Atas dasar itu peneliti melakukan kajian ilmiah lebih dalam untuk mengungkap akar permasalahan dan strategi yang diperlukan dalam proses penyiangan koleksi. Adapun tujuan peneliti yaitu untuk memberikan stimulus bagi pengelola perpustakaan umum dalam melaksanakan penyiangan secara tepat dan efisien. Artikel ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan data pendukung didapatkan dari berbagai literatur seperti artikel ilmiah, buku, dan lainnya. Data dan informasi tersebut dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan studi literatur dengan mengintegrasikan beberapa temuan dokumen hasil penelitian tentang penyiangan koleksi di perpustakaan umum dengan teori-teori yang menunjang. Hasil analisis yang disajikan secara deskriptif diharapkan dapatmemberikan insight baru lebih komprehensi untuk menyikapi problematika kegiatan penyiangan koleksi. Adapun hasil kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa kendala yang kerap ditemui yaitu berkaitan dengan sumber daya manusia, kebijakan penyiangan secara tertulis, efektivitas waktu kerja, dana pemeliharaan, dan tempat. Untuk meminimalisir kendala tersebut pustakawan memerlukan self improvement baik secara psikologis, keilmuan, keterampilan praktis komunikasi dan membangun kerjasama dengan stakeholder. Merujuk hal tersebut, keberhasilan penyiangan merupakan sebuah dedikasi dan tanggung jawab pustakawan beserta dengan pemangku kebijakan.

Abstract

The quality of collections in the library is an important parameter in the assessment of a library. As an information provider unit, the library must be able to ensure that the library materials that are held and stored must be in accordance with the needs of the users and the library needs to develop collections for the needs of the users. This study discusses the selection of library materials in the development of collections at the UPT library of UIN Saizu Purwokerto. The purpose of this study was to find out how the selection process for library materials was carried out in developing collections at UPT Saizu UIN library. The research method used is qualitative research by taking four respondents consisting of one head of the library and three librarians in the management of UIN Saizu. The interview technique was carried out in a structured manner using interview guidelines. The observation technique used non-participants by visiting directly to the research location for two weeks. The data validity technique is source triangulation and descriptive research data analysis. The results of this study indicate that the selection of library materials does not run smoothly when carried out by professional librarians who can build collections. Selection of library materials carried out by UPT Saizu UIN library firstly the librarian submits proposals from students who have completed the list of recommendations given by the library, checking library catalogs through OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) searches, verifying by checking and completing bibliographic data for each title. The tools used by the UIN Saizu library are book scales and publisher catalogs.

Abstract

This study aims to answer the question of how the application of collaborative and just-in-time model collection development and how the comparison of the two models that have been applied to educational libraries. The method used in this research is a critical review method with a literature study approach. The writer made comparation and analyze between two articles which adopted in different model of collection development. The research findings are as follows: 1) The collaborative collection development model utilizes library networks to save budgets and accelerate collection availability, while the just-in-time collection development model applies a responsive access-based collection development approach. This policy is to provide the right and fast collection and save funds. 2) The difference between these two models is that the collaborative model requires a network so as to facilitate the process of both procurement together in order to create budget savings, while the just-in-time collection development is a single model that does not really require a network so that it has absolute autonomy.
