Abstract

Conceptual understanding is something that person has to be able to learn material or to solve problems. One of the mathematical materials related to conceptual understanding is Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV). The graphic method is a method that is rarely taught by teachers and used by students in solving SPLDV. In fact, by using this method, a person's conceptual understanding can be easily seen and is able to develop students' mathematical representation abilities. This research is a qualitative research to describe the conceptual understanding of class VII SMP students in solving SPLDV questions using the graphic method. The research subjects in this study were three students consisting of students with high, low and medium abilities. Students are given two questions related to SPLDV. Based on the results of the students' work, the researcher carried out data analysis consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results of the research show that students' conceptual understanding in solving SPLDV questions using the graphic method is still very low. This is shown by the subject's indicators of conceptual understanding. Of the three indicators of conceptual understanding, both subjects could only meet one indicator and one subject did not even meet any of the indicators. Further research related to increasing conceptual understanding in solving SPLDV questions, especially using graphic methods, needs to be carried out.

Abstract

This study aims to explore ethnomathematical values within the practice of Shibori batik and connect them to geometric concepts in mathematics learning. A qualitative approach with ethnographic methods was employed. Data were collected through participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation at SMA Plus Al-Falah Al-Makky. The results reveal that the Shibori batik process contains geometric elements such as plane figures, reflective symmetry, rotational symmetry, and geometric transformations. Students were able to understand these concepts contextually through hands-on experience in batik-making. In addition to enhancing their understanding of geometry, this activity also fostered appreciation for local culture. These findings support the importance of culture-based mathematics instruction as a meaningful contextual learning approach. This study also opens opportunities for further research to explore other forms of local cultural practices that contain mathematical elements and have the potential to be used as contextual learning media. The development of ethnomathematics-based instructional models at various educational levels, as well as evaluating their effectiveness in improving students’ learning outcomes, becomes an important recommendation for future studies.

Abstract

Kurikulum Merdeka makes it possible to achieve equal distribution of knowledge obtained by students because it is adapted to the potential and needs of students. Project Based Learning (PjBL) is one of the learning models recommended by Kurikulum Merdeka to be applied in learning, one of which is in learning mathematics. PjBL provides experience and knowledge to students through project creation activities. This is able to encourage students to construct their own knowledge after the presentation of project results is complete, which will involve reducing some information that may not be needed. PjBL can be viewed from the philosophy of mathematics education. The type of this research is descriptive research and literature study (library research). The aim of this research is to describe the PjBL model as seen from the philosophy of mathematics, namely from the branches of ontology and epistemology. This article was written based on a literature search based on writings that discuss the philosophy of mathematics education in terms of ontology and epistemology. Judging from the ontology of mathematics education philosophy, this is in accordance with the flow of empiricism and logicism. Meanwhile, in terms of epistemology, the philosophy of mathematics education is in line with constructivism, which means that knowledge is produced from a construction process by students
