Abstract

Community Service Lecture (KPPM) is an academic program that aims to implement science and technology (IPTEKS) in helping communities overcome existing problems. This activity carries a multidisciplinary approach and begins with observation and mapping of the area to design appropriate solutions. One of the locations for the implementation of KPPM is Parparean I Village, Porsea District, Toba Regency, where the majority of the population works as rice farmers and has abundant banana farming. The main problem found in this village is the lack of community skills in processing bananas into high-value products. So far, bananas have only been consumed directly or processed in simple forms such as fried bananas and kolak. Therefore, KPPM activities are focused on education and training in processing bananas into various innovative products, such as chocolate banana chips, kul-kul ice, and banana curry. The main objective of this program is to improve community skills in diversifying banana-based products in order to open up business opportunities and improve their economic welfare. In addition, this program also provides benefits for students by allowing them to apply the knowledge they have learned in college and improve their problem-solving and collaboration skills with the community. The results of this activity show that the community begins to understand the importance of innovation in banana processing and gain new skills in banana-based food production. With ongoing assistance, it is hoped that the community can develop local products that are competitive in the market and create a better economic impact in the long term. KPPM not only provides benefits to the community but also to students and universities in carrying out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, especially in the field of community service.

Abstract

Waste is material that is wasted or discarded from natural processes and sources of human activity that has no economic value. Tarhilala Waste Bank is one of the communities in Toba Regency, which means “feels the benefits” of worthless waste, but sorted and deposited in the waste bank becomes quite useful because of the barter system, where waste can be exchanged for basic necessities. Trash bins are infrastructure that is useful for separating waste according to its basic material, so it can indirectly help students to maintain environmental cleanliness and dispose of waste according to its type. The purpose of this activity is to find out what Tarhilala Garbage Bank and KPPM 48 Students of HKBP Nommensen University Medan did to increase the awareness of SD N 173635 Parparean students in disposing of waste according to its type and maintaining environmental cleanliness. Based on this activity, it can be concluded that the socialization of Tarhilala Waste Bank and KPPM 48 Students of HKBP Nommensen Medan University at SD N 173635 Parparean is good, it can be seen from students who dispose of waste according to their type.

Abstract

The Student Service Practice Lecture (KPPM) activity aims to increase student empathy and concern for others. Each service group team is required to carry out a work program that benefits the village. Making trash cans is one of the work programs carried out by KPPM students. The purpose of this work program activity is to increase the awareness of the Parparean IV village community of the importance of protecting the environment and provide education to the village community not to litter and know the negative effects and dangers of waste on health, through the making of pilot bamboo bins and waste decomposition educational media boards. In addition, the purpose of this activity is to optimize public awareness to dispose of waste in the bins provided, and it is hoped that the community can also take advantage of existing natural resources to make their bins. The method of activities carried out consists of 3 stages, namely the planning stage in the form of licensing, the implementation stage in the form of making bins and educational media boards, and the final stage in the form of distributing bins. After the pilot bins were completed, the service team conducted limited socialization in several residents' homes, without holding formal events or large meetings. This socialization was carried out informally while interacting with residents, to convey information about the importance of cleanliness and waste management.

Abstract

The purpose of this service is to create a successful marketing strategy to increase the marketing results of student numbers at State Elementary School (SDN) No. 173634 Porsea. This has led to a decline in student numbers in recent years. Education marketing is essential to build a positive image of the school and stimulate community interest. This service activity was carried out using interviews and observations. Interviews were conducted to obtain more in-depth information. Observations were made to obtain more accurate and detailed information, by observing activities carried out by students of Public Elementary School No. 173634 Porsea, such as teaching and learning activities, extracurricular activities, and other activities. The results showed that effective marketing strategies include improving the quality of education, expanding collaboration networks with parents and communities, and promoting social media. Although the number of students decreased, the efforts proved to increase positive results. The school has made several efforts to improve its image and the quality of education which has started to get positive attention from the community. The smaller decrease shows that the efforts made to attract students are starting to show results, indicating that steps have been taken by the school to improve the quality of education and improve the school's image in the eyes of the community. Schools can promote in any way that emphasizes the importance of marketing in building a positive image and increasing community interest.

Abstract

Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di tingkat sekolah dasar memiliki peran krusial dalam membentuk kemampuan komunikasi siswa sejak usia dini. Namun, praktik pembelajaran yang masih bersifat konvensional dan berpusat pada guru sering mengakibatkan rendahnya penguasaan kosakata serta kurangnya kepercayaan diri siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan pendekatan partisipatif yang dilakukan mahasiswa KPPM melalui metode fun learning, sekaligus menganalisis peningkatan penguasaan kosakata dan kepercayaan diri siswa di SD Negeri Silalahi 1. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Posko KPPM Kelompok 14 dengan subjek siswa kelas III–VI. Mahasiswa KPPM bertindak sebagai fasilitator dengan menerapkan metode fun learning melalui permainan, lagu, role play, dan aktivitas kelompok. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, tes kosakata (pre-test dan post-test), dokumentasi, dan refleksi kegiatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan partisipatif yang dipadukan dengan metode fun learning mampu meningkatkan partisipasi aktif siswa, penguasaan kosakata, dan kepercayaan diri. Nilai rata-rata kosakata meningkat dari 50 pada pre-test menjadi 75 pada post-test. Siswa menjadi lebih antusias, berani berbicara, dan lebih percaya diri dalam menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Temuan ini dapat menjadi acuan dalam pengembangan strategi pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang kreatif dan inovatif di sekolah dasar.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan, partisipasi, dan perilaku masyarakat dalam menjaga kebersihan lingkungan serta mengurangi sampah rumah tangga di Desa Silalahi 1 melalui pendekatan partisipatif oleh mahasiswa KPPM. Metode yang digunakan meliputi observasi awal, perencanaan partisipatif bersama masyarakat, penyuluhan kebersihan lingkungan, kegiatan gotong royong, serta evaluasi menggunakan kuesioner, catatan partisipasi, dan checklist kebersihan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat dari sekitar 45% menjadi 80%, serta peningkatan partisipasi warga dalam kegiatan kebersihan dari sekitar 30 menjadi ±50 orang. Selain itu, terjadi perubahan perilaku yang ditandai dengan berkurangnya kebiasaan membuang sampah sembarangan dan mulai diterapkannya pengelolaan sampah sederhana di tingkat rumah tangga. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan partisipatif efektif dalam mendorong keterlibatan masyarakat dan perubahan perilaku menuju lingkungan yang lebih bersih. Secara praktis, model ini dapat dijadikan sebagai strategi pengelolaan kebersihan lingkungan berbasis masyarakat yang berpotensi direplikasi di desa lain.
