Abstract

A blackout on a ship is a condition where the main propulsion power source on the ship does not operate due to the lack of electrical supply from the diesel generator, which serves as the primary source of electricity on the ship. Ship maneuvering, on the other hand, refers to the ability to turn and pivot while sailing. This ability is crucial for the safety of the ship, especially when operating in restricted waters or near ports. The blackout occurs as a result of generator overload or the inability of an electrical voltage and current to flow too high or too large. The load is too high because the bow thruster consumes too much electrical voltage. In fact, on KM. Dharma Kartika IX, the generator has already supplied a significant amount of electricity to various parts of the ship, including the lighting system throughout the ship, from the mast to deck 3, the cooling system, and several navigation systems. The aim of this research is to understand and explain the causes of blackouts in the electrical system of KM Dharma Kartika IX during maneuvering and to find solutions that should be implemented in case of problems with the generator unit. The method I used to gather this data is through direct observation during seagoing service on the subjects under examination.

Abstract

The shipping activity seeks to combine various perspectives such as quality, quantity, welfare satisfaction and safety and security prerequisites related to transportation through the port to the waters.  However, when sailing, the KM. Dharma Rucitra VII ran aground, causing the heavy steering leaf to be moved and resulting in overload, so the ability of the Thermal Overload Relay (TOR) is needed as an electric motor safety from overload. This study aims to analyze the performance of the Thermal Overload Relay (TOR) as a safety for the electric motor driving the rudder leaf from overload due to the ship running aground. The research uses qualitative methods with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews and documentation and then analyzed through three stages, namely reducing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions. The result of the research shows that: 1) The rudder leaf is stuck on the seabed because the ship ran aground, causing the Thermal Overload Relay (TOR) on the rudder panel to work; and 2) Thermal Overload Relay (TOR) on the rudder panel when the ship ran aground works in the current range of 7.5A to 10A.

Abstract

Ships are a very efficient and effective means of transportation. With today's increasingly advanced, modern, and demanding developments, ships are also designed to be able to meet every expected human need. This research method uses a qualitative research approach which is analyzed descriptively. The research results show that an effective fire alarm system has enormous significance in the context of the maritime environment; maintenance of the detector will reduce the failure of the detector to detect fire so that the optical system and electronic circuit in the detector can work optimally. To ensure that the fire alarm is always operational in the event of a fire, we regularly test the alarm using our testing equipment.

Abstract

Fires on ships pose a high risk due to limited access to help from land and firefighting equipment. To minimize these risks, it's important to maximize the effectiveness of the fire alarm system. This can be done by quickly detecting any smoke or fire using the alarm system and taking immediate action before the fire spreads. A qualitative descriptive method was used in this research to investigate the decline in the working function of fire alarms. The research focused on the problems with fire alarm smoke detectors and the correct maintenance methods. The findings of the research indicate that the lack of maintenance and repair of the fire alarm system are the main factors that cause the decline in the capability of fire alarm sensors. To ensure that the fire alarm system works properly, it should be routinely and periodically maintained. This will help to prevent any potential issues and ensure that the alarm system is always functioning at its best.

Abstract

The Plan Maintenance System (PMS) is a continuous and scheduled maintenance system for equipment and supplies on a ship. Its purpose is to ensure that the ship is always in a seaworthy condition and ready to operate. In order to achieve smooth operation of the ship, it is essential to have a good, efficient, and effective work and maintenance system for the ship's electricity and systems. One way to do this is by formulating and implementing maintenance system plans by shipping companies in Indonesia. During research carried out on the KM Ship, KIRANA, it was found that there was a lack of maintenance on the Main Switch Board, leading to problems with the indicator lights and needles. Infrequent maintenance was also ignored, leading to undesirable events due to inadequate implementation of the planned maintenance system. To avoid damage or short circuits, it is important to schedule and regularly check the components of the switch board weekly and monthly. This will help maintain the components and minimize malfunctions on the switch board, with the help of scheduling in the Plan Maintenance System.

Abstract

Emergency generator is an auxiliary machine that functions to generate electrical power to meet the electrical needs of the ship during an emergency (black-out). This research was conducted to find out what caused the black-out onboard KM. Kelud, how the role of the Emergency generator during a black-out, and how to maintain the emergency generator so that it is always ready when used. The research method that the author uses is a qualitative research method. Data collection is done through interviews and observations. The results obtained from this study indicate that the cause of the black-out on KM. Kelud is the entry of mud into the hull, causing the cooling system in the main engine to be disrupted and eventually black-out. The role of the emergency generator during a black-out is as a temporary source of electricity to run several devices, such as navigation equipment, ship lighting, fire alarm systems, sprinkle pumps, and watertight door systems. In order for the emergency generator to run according to its function, it must be carried out routine maintenance such as checking batteries, oil and lubricants, cooling systems, and periodic testing.

Abstract

The development of technology has led to increased use of air conditioning. Air conditioning is a process that cools, dries, cleans, and circulates air, while controlling its quantity and quality. It is important for machinists and electricians responsible for cooling machines to effectively carry out their duties and responsibilities by maintaining the machines properly. This research is a qualitative case study involving descriptive analysis using written or spoken observations of behavior. It focuses on the analysis of freon leaks in the condenser related to room temperature on the MT ship, Kuang. The research concludes that the decrease in condenser work in refrigerator machines is caused by interference with the dryer. The recommended efforts include inspecting and repairing leaking pipes, and conducting maintenance and repairs in accordance with the Manual Book standards.
