Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of giving chicken manure and the right dose in increasing the vegetative growth of maize (Zea mays. L). This research was conducted in March – June 2022 in Sidenreng Rappang Regency using a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 4 treatments which were repeated 5 times, each replication consisted of 3 sample plants so there were 60 plant units, while the treatments used were N0 : No treatment / no fertilizer, N1: 50 grams of chicken manure, N2: 100 grams of chicken manure, and N3: 150 grams of chicken manure. From the results of the variance of chicken manure giving no significant effect on the vegetative growth of corn plants. There were vegetative growth results that gave the best response with N2 treatment of 100 grams of chicken manure showing plant height = 73.09 cm, stem diameter = 1.14 cm and number of leaves = 7.3 strands.

Abstract

Corn (Zea mays L.) is a strategic food and feed commodity in Indonesia, but its productivity is still greatly influenced by water availability, especially on rainfed and dryland areas. Climate variability that increases the frequency and duration of drought has the potential to reduce corn growth, reproductive synchronization, and yield. This study aims to evaluate agronomic performance and identify drought-tolerant corn genotypes by comparing optimal and limited water conditions. The study was conducted at the Maros Agricultural Experiment Station, South Sulawesi, from March to June 2025, using a split-plot design with three replications. The main treatments consisted of optimal water conditions and moderate drought stress, while the subplots consisted of 10 candidate hybrids and 4 comparison varieties.The parameters observed included plant height, anthesis–silking interval (ASI), seed yield, yield per hectare, and drought stress sensitivity index (S). The results showed that drought stress reduced plant height and yield per hectare and widened the ASI value in several genotypes, but seed yield remained relatively stable between the two water conditions. Based on the drought stress sensitivity index, genotypes H12 (NK 33) and H8 were classified as tolerant, while other genotypes varied from moderately tolerant to sensitive. Thus, genotypes with relatively stable growth, low ASI, high yield, and low S value have the potential to be developed as candidates for drought-tolerant corn varieties for dry and rainfed lands.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of rice straw bokashi and bat guano application on the growth of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) cv. Raden and to determine the most effective treatment combination. The experiment was conducted in Witaponda District, Morowali Regency, Indonesia, from August to October 2024 using a Randomised Complete Block Design (RCBD) consisting of five treatments and five replications. The treatments included P0 (control), P1 (50 g rice straw bokashi + 200 g bat guano), P2 (100 g rice straw bokashi + 150 g bat guano), P3 (150 g rice straw bokashi + 100 g bat guano), and P4 (200 g rice straw bokashi + 50 g bat guano). The observed parameters were plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, and flowering age. Data were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by correlation analysis to determine the relationship between plant height and leaf number. The results showed that the application of rice straw bokashi and bat guano positively affected the growth of bitter melon. The P4 treatment produced the best growth performance, with a plant height of 140 cm, 35 leaves per plant, the highest number of branches, and the earliest flowering age of 23.75 days after planting (DAP). The combination of bokashi and guano improved nutrient availability, enhanced soil physical and biological properties, and stimulated microbial activity, thereby promoting both vegetative and generative growth. Correlation analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between plant height and leaf number (r = 0.84), indicating balanced plant development. These findings demonstrate that the application of 200 g rice straw bokashi combined with 50 g bat guano is the most effective treatment for improving growth and accelerating flowering of bitter melon cv. Raden has potential as an environmentally friendly organic fertilisation strategy.

Abstract

Soybean (Glycine max L.) is an important food commodity after rice in Indonesia, but domestic productivity is still low so that dependence on imports remains high. One strategy to increase sustainable productivity is through the use of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) based on organic waste, such as sago pulp (Metroxylon sagu), which contains essential nutrients and can improve soil fertility. This study aims to evaluate the effect of sago pulp POC application on the growth and yield of Wilis soybean variety. The study was conducted in Lamasi District, Luwu Regency, Palopo City in April–August 2024, using a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK) with six POC concentration treatments (0, 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 ml/L of water) and four replications. The parameters observed included plant height, flowering age, number of pods, and dry weight of pods. The results showed that the application of sago pulp POC had a significant effect on all parameters. The highest treatment (250 ml/L) produced maximum plant height (60.01 cm), the highest number of pods (168.42 pods), and the largest dry weight of pods (91.57 g). Meanwhile, the 100 ml/L treatment accelerated the flowering age to 37.42 HST. Sago pulp POC has been proven to be able to significantly increase vegetative and generative growth of soybeans, as well as being an alternative solution for environmentally friendly fertilization that supports sustainable agriculture and the independence of national soybean production.
