Abstract

Learning innovation in the laboratory has experienced very rapid development in the current era of technological development. One of these innovations is through the use of virtual laboratory classes in science learning, as is the case with temperature and heat materials. The aims of this research are to develop a virtual lab based on the STEM approach on the concepts of temperature and heat, to test the validity and practicality of virtual lab products based on the STEM approach. The development method used is 4-D (four-D). The data obtained in the form of quantitative and qualitative data. Qualitative data in the form of suggestions, input, feedback and criticism from the validator and quantitative data in the form of a validation questionnaire. The validation results show that the validation is 87.89% (very feasible). In addition, the practical test of student responses was obtained at 96, 15 (very practical) and the teacher at 3.31 (very practical). Practically speaking, the virtual lab based on the STEM approach that was developed is very useful to support practical activities.

Abstract

It is important for students to comprehend the concepts as the ability not only to understand, but also to be able to apply the concepts given to solve a problem, and to think critically about the problems during the learning process. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement differences of students' critical thinking skills after the application of the case method model learning based on character values in the reproductive system material in SMA IT Al-Fityan and SMA IT Al-Arabiyah. The research method included quasi-experimental research with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design with a sample of 116 students. Data collection techniques used was students' learning outcomes data by using pretest and posttest questions in the form of multiple choices with reasons. The questions were according to the indicators that must be achieved during learning process. Then the data was analyzed by using the average value of the pretest and posttest, then the average difference test was carried out. Hypothesis testing for students' critical thinking skills was analyzed by using = 0.05 with a significant level of 0.95% with the following test criteria: If tCount < tTable then Ho is accepted, and if tCount ≥ tTable then Ho is rejected. The study results in the findings that: 1) Improvement in students' critical thinking skills by applying case method learning models based on character values in reproductive system materials; 2) The character value of students was greatly improved during learning process and when students are in the environment; 3) The relation between improving critical thinking skills and character values in the learning process was excellent.

Abstract

The STEM-based learning process spurs the creativity of students in knowledge, skills and others. Students' science process skills are very supportive in improving the quality of education to solve problems in everyday life. This study aims to determine the suitability of the learning process by pre-service teachers with the learning planning stages, students' science process skills and the correlation between the learning process and science process skills. This research is quantitative and qualitative through descriptive research. The results showed that the value of the results of observations on the learning process by the pre-service teacher was in the good category. The value of students' science process skills is in the sufficient category. There is a correlation between the STEM-based learning process and students' science process skills, which means that the STEM-based learning process affects students' science process skills even though it is small. The conclusion in this study is that the STEM-based learning process on science process skills has a positive relationship to the quality of student learning
