Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on all sectors of life, including education. The Minister of Education and Culture has established a policy relating to online teaching and learning in order to prevent rising instances. In carrying out online learning, the right learning media is needed, so that learning can continue to run well. The purpose of this study is to ascertain how students feel about using TikTok as a teaching tool. With the aid of a questionnaire as a research instrument, this study employs a quantitative descriptive analytic technique. There were samples in this investigation, and there were 18 grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 14 Dumoga who had participated in the Covid-19 pandemic's use of TikTok as a teaching tool. The results showed that the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 14 Dumoga liked the use of Tiktok as a medium for learning English, especially speaking. The use of TikTok as a learning medium is quite good for use in the process of learning English, especially in students' speaking. This can be shown in the results of data that has been processed and calculated based on predetermined criteria. Therefore, it is hoped that Tiktok can be a reference for learning media to learn English, especially speaking.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine students' reading comprehension ability in narrative text by using Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) as a strategy in learning at students of SMP Negeri 2 Eris. The research approach used in this study is a quantitative method using pre-Experimental design and for the sample of this research, namely the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Eris, consisting of 18 students. For the research instrument, the writer used 4 reading texts with 20 questions in it and the writer divided the meeting into 3 meetings to taught the students. All the data that collected taken from the test that is pretest results is 51 and the posttest is 86. The students score achievement from pretest to posttest is 35. The results of this study show that the implementation of collaborative strategy reading can improve student reading comprehension in narrative text and this strategy can be a solution for lack of students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of using the Direct Listening Thinking Activity (DLTA) learning strategy in improving the listening skills of eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Eris. Direct Listening Thinking Activity (DLTA) is a learning strategy to improve students' understanding of the material being listened to. This study is pre-experimental design used quantitave research in one group pre-test and post-test. The subjects were 22 sttudents of eigth grade. The data were collected by using matchmaking questions wich the sampling students answer the question according to the instruction given by researcher. The result of this study indicates that the mean score of post-test was higer than pre-test. It can proof that the DLTA strategy can improve students listening skill.

Abstract

One of the most crucial factors for improved success in studying English is motivation. This study's objective is to determine the motivation of students to learn English and the relationship between the learning and motivation of students. English proficiency at SMPN 4 Tondano in the study of English. The author gathered information from the questionnaire and supporting documents, then used the correlation coefficient of Pearson's product moment (SPSS 0.20) and questionnaire percentages to analyze the data. Thirty-one junior high school students from Tondano's second grade participated in this study. The sample was obtained by the writer using random sampling. The study's conclusions state that there were 31 participants. According to the survey results, 0% of students lackted motivation, 0% had moderate motivation, 64.5% had great motivation, and 35.5% had very high motivation. The average motivation score for all students at SMPN 4 Tondano is 64.09, meaning that most of them, especially those in the second grade, have very high motivation. The correlation coefficient the connection between pupils' motivation and their ability in English studies is 0.573, falling into the third category (0.40-0.70) That enough correlation exists between the X and Y variables. Put another way, this indicates that there is a strong enough relationship between pupils' motivation and their success in learning English. The result shows that the two variables (X and Y) have a positive association.
