Abstract

Abstract

Poverty is still a major problem in developing countries like Indonesia. One province that has contributed to the poverty of Indonesia is the Province of West Java. West Java is the third poorest population in indonesia, contributing to 13.79 percent, just under East Java and Central Java. Poverty is a complex problem that needs more attention to its treatment. It takes an in-depth study to determine what variables of socio-economic factor must take priority in dealing with poverty. This study tries to identify and examine the factors affecting poverty in the Province of West Java. The data used is by the 2014-2018 panel data released by the Central Statistics Office of Indonesia (BPS) provincesties/cities of West Java and other available data from Ministry of Finance Indonesia (Kemenkeu). The method used in this study is panel data regressions into the presumed variables are affecting poverty based on expert theories. The results have been economic growth, the open unemployment rate (TPT), the public allocation fund (DAU), and the population density has no significant impact on poverty in West Java. The human development index variable (ipm), compiled for school average, school-time hopes, life expectancy, and per capita spending, has a significant impact on poverty. So the step that government must take are to ensure public health with adequate facilities, providing educational facilities including teachers who not only have enough from the quantity side but also have high quality. Another attempt is to ensure stability at prices and maintain purchasing power of society with adequate income and or affordable price of needs.

Abstract

The government has a target of improving nutrition in in sustainable development (SDGs). One of nutritional problem is stunting. Stunting is a condition of failure to thrive in children under five due to chronic malnutrition. The high prevalence of stunting causes major problems in various sectors. Although in 2018 there was a significant decline from 37.2 percent (2013) to 30.8 percent (2018), but it is still far from WHO standards, which is below 20 percent. In addition, inequality between regions is very large. The prevalence of stunting in DKI Jakarta is already 17.6 percent, while most other regions are still above 30 percent. West Sulawesi is one of the provinces with the highest prevalence of stunting (41.6 percent), even for the very short toddler category, West Sulawesi is the highest in Indonesia. This study aims to study the effect of demographic characteristics on the incidence of stunting in children under five in West Sulawesi. The data used are the results of the 2018 basic health research (Riskesdas 2018). The analytical method uses binary logistic regression which concludes that mother’s education, father's education, history of maternal pregnancy check up, history of TTD consumption during maternal pregnancy, and maternal age at birth have a significant influence on the incidence of stunting in toddlers. These results indicate that household knowledge and awareness are the main steps in preventing the prevention of stunting.

Abstract

Purpose – The objective of the research is to examine the influence of compensation procedural fairness and employee engagement on workforce agility and its impact on employee performance at BPS Sulawesi Barat Province. Methodology/approach – The causality associative research approach is used in this research design. The Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) approach is used in this study for quantitative analysis, while graphs and tables are used for descriptive analyses. The primary data used in this study was obtained from 139 respondents throughout the entire BPS Sulawesi Barat Province's units. Findings – The findings imply that compensation procedural fairness and employee engagement have significant effects on employee performance. Additionally, fairness in the compensation procedure and employee engagement through workforce agility substantially impact employee performance. Meanwhile, compensation procedural fairness was found to have no direct significant impact on employee performance. These findings differ from previous studies. Novelty/value – BPS Vision as the quality data provider for advanced Indonesia, must ensure the fulfilment of the demand of data users. In addition, the volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) conditions of the workplace made employee engagement, workforce agility, and compensation procedural fairness necessary to respond to challenges. This study is particularly new in government data provider organisations; therefore, the conclusions are crucial for planning and evaluation.

Abstract

Poverty in Sulawesi Barat Province has experienced a slow decline, and has even consistently increased since 2021-2024, placing Sulawesi Barat poverty always above national poverty which tends to decline to single digits. The role of the agricultural sector and informal sector businesses which dominate with an average income below the UMP is thought to be the main factor causing poverty. Apart from that, health factors and educational factors are also thought to have quite an influence on people's productivity in meeting their basic needs. Thus, this research will examine the relationship between GRDP in the agricultural sector, employment, health and education indicators to poverty in Sulawesi Barat Province. The data used is secondary data that has been released by BPS-Statistic of Sulawesi Barat Province, including poverty levels, GRDP based on constant agricultural sector prices, open unemployment rates, life expectancy, and average years of schooling, in 6 districts during the 2015-2024 period. Data were analyzed using panel data regression. The GRDP variable based on constant prices in the agricultural sector has a negative and significant influence on poverty. The variable open unemployment rate (TPT), life expectancy (UHH), and average years of schooling (RLS) insignificant influence on poverty. The coefficient of determination (R2) reached 64.62 percent, indicating that the independent variable is strong enough to explain the dependent variable. Seeing the crucial role of the agricultural sector in Sulawesi Barat, it is necessary to increase productivity in various ways such as building supporting infrastructure, applying modern technology, and so on.
