Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are important for students to have, but these abilities are still low. One reason is that the teacher's teaching method is still dominated by lectures in the classroom. This study aims to improve students' mathematical communication skills through the development of learning tools using the outdoor learning method on sequences and series material. Validation sheets, observation sheets, student response questionnaires and learning achievement tests are the data collected for analysis. The results of the validity of lesson plans, worksheets, and THB each reached a value of 4.6; 4.7; and 4.6 out of a maximum value of 5, which means it is valid. The results of the practicality analysis of the device reach 92%, which means it is practical. From the trial results, there were 80% of students in the active category, and positive student responses reached 84%. The minimum completeness of the learning outcomes test was obtained by 85.29% of the students in the experimental class, while the control class only reached 52.94%. From the results of the t-test it is evident that learning on sequences and series material with learning devices using outdoor learning methods has a significant effect on improving students' mathematical communication skills. Keywords: Mathematical Communication, Sequences and Sequences Material, Outdoor Learning Methods, Learning Devices.

Abstract

Kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa memerlukan perhatian dalam proses pembelajaran. Berdasarkan wawancara dengan guru matematika, kemampuan komunikasi matematis tulis siswa masih kurang, terutama dalam proses penyelesaian masalah yang berkaitan dengan materi sistem persamaan linier tiga variabel. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan komunikasi matematis tulis siswa SMK pada materi sistem persamaan linear tiga variabel. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini diterapkan dengan tiga tes pada tes dan wawancara semi terstruktur untuk siswa dengan kemampuan komunikasi matematis tertulis baik, kemampuan komunikasi matematis tertulis sedang dan kemampuan komunikasi matematis tulis lemah. Analisis data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode analisis data deskriptif yang meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan inferensi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dan pembahasan, ditemukan bahwa siswa dengan kemampuan komunikasi matematis tinggi mampu mengungkapkan, menginterpretasikan dan mengevaluasi ide matematika secara tertulis dan menggunakan simbol matematika saat menyelesaikan masalah. Siswa dengan kemampuan komunikasi matematika sedang dapat mengungkapkan melalui menulis, mengevaluasi, dan menggunakan simbol matematika untuk menyelesaikan masalah matematika, tetapi menambahkan variabel masih menimbulkan kebingungan. Sedangkan untuk siswa dengan kemampuan komunikasi matematis rendah, mereka tidak dapat mengungkapkan ide matematika secara tertulis.Students' mathematical communication skills require attention in the learning process. Based on interviews with mathematics teachers, students' written mathematical communication skills are still lacking, especially in the process of solving problems related to the material on a system of three-variable linear equations. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the written mathematical communication skills of SMK students on the material system of three-variable linear equations. The research data collection technique was applied to three tests on tests and semi-structured interviews for students with good written mathematical communication skills, medium written mathematical communication skills and weak written mathematical communication skills. Data analysis in this study was carried out using descriptive data analysis methods which included data reduction, data presentation, and inference. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion, it was found that students with high mathematical communication skills were able to express, interpret and evaluate mathematical ideas in writing and use mathematical symbols when solving problems. Students with moderate mathematical communication skills can express through writing, evaluating, and using mathematical symbols to solve mathematical problems, but adding variables still creates confusion. Whereas for students with low mathematical communication skills, they cannot express mathematical ideas in writing.
