Abstract

Squid fishing can be done at night and during the day. Intensive fishing is thought to have caused a change in the biology of the squid. In this regard, this study aims to analyze squid’s biology, including size distribution, growth pattern, sex ratio, gonad maturity and the size of the first gonad maturity. The research was conducted using a survey method through direct involvement in fishing operations with fishermen who use and do not use the Android-based Asia & Africa HD application. The study was conducted from March to May 2022. The results showed that the distribution of the mantle length of squid caught using the application ranged from 0.9 to 14.6 cm (11.42 ± 1.73 cm) and not using the application ranged from 0, 9-14.6 cm (11.19 ± 1.81 cm) for both males and females, negative allometric growth pattern (b < 3) for both males and females, male to female sex ratio using the application of 30.25: 69, 75% (1.0 : 2.3) and did not use the application of 38.95 : 61.05% (1.0 : 1.5), male squid gonad maturity is only at the immature stage of gonads (stages I- II) both caught using and without using the application, while female squid were found from the immature, gonadal and spawning stages (stages I-V) both caught using and without using the application. The size of the female squid's first gonad maturity was reached at 9.187 cm for those who used the application, while the size of 10,942 cm for those who did not use the application. The impact of using this application is that more squid are caught with have smaller gonad maturity sizes, unbalanced sex ratio, and there is no alignment of the stages of male and female gonad maturity.

Abstract

Bubu is a traditional fishing tool for catching freshwater fish in areas around rivers, lakes and swamps. Catches using traps tend to decrease. In connection with this, this research aims to analyze the productivity of traps using different baits. This research was conducted from May to June 2023 in Tommo Village, Mamuju Regency. This research is classified as a type of experimental research with the design used in this research being a Randomized Block Design with three groups and four different bait treatments, namely no bait, fine bran, corn and sweet potatoes. Determination of sampling stations was carried out by purposive sampling according to the conditions of the research site. The results showed that the composition of fish species caught with 287 bran baits, 41 sweet potato baits and 76 corn baits. Distribution of catch weight using bran bait 0.193 ± 0.140 g, sweet potato bait 0.167 ± 0.166 g and corn 0.209 ± 0.150 g. Productivity based on overall catch for bran, sweet potato and corn bait respectively 71.04; 10.15 and 18.81%. Based on the catch rate, the productivity obtained with bran bait was 1.844 g/trip, sweet potato bait 0.228 g/trip and corn bait 0.531 g/trip. The highest productivity by station was obtained by using bran feed at station III. The best productivity was using bran bait while the highest weight was using corn bait.
