Abstract

Family firms were widely recognized to have a substantial contribution to the economy, especially in emerging economies. However, some previous studies reveal that family firms tend to be conservative and unwilling to take more risks. We extended the literature by investigating whether there was a difference in risk-taking behavior between family and non-family firms in the context of Indonesia. Moreover, the presence of women in the top management also considered negatively correlated with risk-taking strategy. Therefore, this study empirically examined the effects of family ownership and women in top management on a risk-taking strategy of firms. Using data of 336 publicly traded firms in Indonesia over 2012-2016, this study confirmed the negative effect of family ownership and women in top management on corporate risk-taking. Family ownership and involvement as the CEO of the firms negatively associated with the level of risk taking. Moreover, our results reveal that the presence of women was a matter more to decrease corporate risk-taking when they served in the board of directors rather than in the board of commissioners.JEL Classification: G32, M14DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/jkdp.v22i4.2452

Abstract

The article described the difficulty to spot specific suppliers that feed the targeted customers in a closed-loop supply chain. When managers had difficulties in identifying the role of suppliers in a supply chain network, several possible situations might appear, such as redundant supply that led to both over and undersupply situations. The article also portrayed a course of an evaluative process underlies the network design decisions in a closed-loop electricity supply system. The case research, as presented in the article, was based on an archival data examination, literature review, structured interviews, and observations on the field operations of the electricity distribution system in Indonesia’s main islands. The research findings revealed that the distribution network within the closed-loop supply chain system was suggested to implement two stages decisions; started with local optimization analysis and followed by unified solution among all local optimal solutions. Such an approach arguably would reduce redundant supply as well as minimizing both over and undersupply in the system. For practical implications the article demonstrated the possibility of drawing the false conclusion when transmission costs were ignored in the supply chain-design decision analysis, as exhibited in the Indonesia electricity supply network. Abstract

Introduction/Main Objectives: The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristics of the development pattern of the capabilities of SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) to manage an integrated supply chain’s capabilities. Background Problems: The use of a single source will lead to a single respondent bias and give rise to inter-rater reliability for the perceptual data. When measuring the performance variables in this study, which uses self-reporting, the use of a single respondent will lead to bias. Novelty: This study aims to test the concept of fit, in particular for the alignment of strategy between functions, which are the supply chain and manufacturing strategies, by using a selection approach. The taxonomy result will produce a strategic profile which is able to describe the extent to which the strategic decision agrees with, and is consistent between the functions of SMEs in particular. Research Methods: The hypothesis testing process of the study uses a sample of 102 SMEs in the Province of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The testing technique used in this study is a cluster analysis and an ANOVA. Findings/Results: The testing result of the cluster analysis identifies three taxa of supply chain strategy groups. The result of the ANOVA test is used to test three hypotheses and all the hypotheses are supported, while the hypothesis of the supply chain’s strategy group differences, based on the type of product, is not proven. Conclusion: The cluster testing result produces strategic profiling; it identifies the three groups of the supply chain’s strategies that describe the ability of SMEs to design their supply chain’s capabilities, with particular regard to the six dimensions of the supply chain’s strategy that have been listed.

Abstract

Kampung Batik Laweyan in Surakarta is one of the oldest batik centers in Indonesia, which has developed since the 16th century during the Pajang Kingdom. The peak of Laweyan's glory occurred in the early 20th century until around 1970, when this area became the largest batik production and trade center in Solo. However, since around 1970, Laweyan's glory began to decline. The entry of printed batik and batik-patterned textiles produced in bulk, especially from abroad, caused written batik and Laweyan stamps to lose competition in terms of price and production volume. The process of making traditional batik that takes a long time is not able to match the efficiency of modern industry. As a result, many batik businesses in Laweyan went out of business, the next generation was reluctant to continue the family business, and batik making activities in this village stagnated for almost three decades. The decline marks the end of Laweyan's glory era as the center of the pure batik industry, as well as a turning point for the transformation of Laweyan in the next era as a batik village based on cultural heritage and tourism. This study aims to examine the influence of motivation on various aspects of cultural tourism experience in Kampung Batik Laweyan, with a focus on tourists from the general public. With a quantitative approach through a questionnaire survey based on a 5-point Likert scale, this study involved visitors over 18 years old who were selected by purposive sampling technique. The variables tested included authenticity/authenticity, education, entertainment, hedonism, customer engagement, customer satisfaction, and motivation. The analysis was carried out using regression and mediation tests to test the relationship between variables. The results of the research are expected to enrich the literature of cultural tourism and provide practical recommendations in improving the experience and satisfaction of visitors to Kampung Batik Laweyan.
