Abstract

The study aims to determine the relationship between the total growth rate of the service sector, gross value-added of the service sector, and total employment contribution in the service sector (independent variables) on the Philippines' GDP (dependent variable). Numerous studies show a relationship between the independent variable, Total Growth Rate, Employment Contribution and Gross Value Added of the Service Sector to the dependent variable, Gross Domestic Product of the Philippines. The researchers demonstrate the strong positive relationship between the total employment contribution and gross value added (GVA) of the service sector to the GDP of the Philippines as well as the weak positive relationship between the service sector economic growth rate using the Pearson Coefficient Correlation test. The group utilized available data from credible sources from the year 1990-2020.

Abstract

The Philippines has copious natural resources and a literate workforce, creating a possibility of further growth and being at par with Members’ Intra-ASEAN Trade Levels and ASEAN’s Average Trade Level. With this, the effect of the Philippine Total Trade, GDP by Sector, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and Intra-ASEAN Trade by Products on the Philippine Intra-ASEAN Trade Level were examined among the ASEAN-4 nations – Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore. Such was necessary to state if a connection exists between the former and the latter. Moreover, as numerous countries form trade blocs globally, trade agreements for broader economic integration and grow their trade, as the world is interconnected through trade. This study will reinforce those external initiatives by foreign countries (FDI) and regional organizations (ASEAN) will remain keys to further trade liberalization and economic growth in the Philippines.

Abstract

In this modern era of enhancement, basic to secondary human necessities and desires evolve. Smoking cigarettes has been a problem since then and policies and laws are promulgated to address the smoking problem that every nation faces. Background knowledge and personal social demographics may affect their harmful perception of smoking– whether it is an e-cigarette or a traditional cigarette. This research tackles and determines how socio-demographics such as age, gender, and grade level attained can impact the harmful perception of cigarette and e-cigarette consumption. This study further discusses the socio-demographics and its relationship with harm perception on cigarette and e-cigarette smoking. A survey questionnaire from the National Youth Tobacco Survey 2021 was used as a reference and basis to test whether age, gender, and grade level would affect the harm perception on the usage of cigarettes and e-cigarettes and then Multinomial Logistic Regression. Further testing revealed that gender and grade level positively affects the harmful perception of cigarette and e-cigarette smoking, contrary to age which negatively affects said perception.

Abstract

The Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis is the most notable method for measuring environmental degradation and its relationship with economic growth. In this research paper, the researchers examine the validity of the relationship between carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and fluorinated gasses (F-Gas) to Gross Domestic Product, population, renewable energy consumption, trade openness, and inflation of the ASEAN-5 countries’ data from 1990-2018, using panel regression tests which are POLS, FE model, and RE model. Results reveal that the independent variables do not affect CH4 based on the RE model while CO2, N2O, and F-GAS are partially affected based on the FE model. The EKC is confirmed only for F-GAS, suggesting that a turning point is established. Other emissions imply that these economies are still in their early stages of development, hence the non-existence of EKC. Based on the outcomes, recommended actions specifically for the agricultural and industrial sectors include the following: (1) investing in renewable energy, (2) provision of subsidies and incentivization, and (3) adopting and modifying emission-related systematic waste management and recycling to better suit each countries’ economy.

Abstract

It has been proven that business location greatly affects the performance of traditional businesses. The rise of online businesses was mainly due to their convenience in terms of location and customer proximity. The study aims to determine whether location serves as a moderating factor in the newer online businesses in terms of various determinants. With the prevalence of e-commerce, we would like to determine if these variables still play a factor in choosing an online business location as likewise with traditional businesses. This research demonstrates whether or not an online business location is correlated with business firm size, capital, and internet connection. The results indicate that location does in fact serve as a moderator in the relationship between firm size, starting capital, internet connectivity, and firm performance.
