Abstract

This studied aim to determine the economic factors that influence the transfer of cocoa farming to patchouli in Aere Village, Aere District, East Kolaka Regency. The implementation of this study was carried out in April 2022 with a total of 30 respondents who transferred cocoa farming to patchouli crops in total. The transfer of farming business carried out by farmers in Aere Village is to change the cultivation of farming businesses that used to be cocoa to patchouli plants. The data analysis used is to determine the difference in the amount of income receipts of farmers before transferring farming and after transferring farming. The results showed that the amount of income receipts of farmers who transferred cocoa farming to patchouli crops in Aere Village, Aere District, East Kolaka Regency had a considerable difference where the average income of cocoa farmers before switching was Rp. 132.300.564,-/ year and after switching to patchouli crops, the average income of farmers was Rp. 517.309.571,-/ year

Abstract

The low level of household income encourages all elements to be utilized as much as possible to improve the household economy, including housewives. This study aims to examine the role of women in the tempe-making business in Lambusa village, Konda subdistrict, South Konawe Regency. The population in the study were all women who were active in Mr. Madarin's tempe making business in Lambusa Village. The informants in the study were divided into two groups, namely the main informants (female employees working in the tempe business) and the supporting informants (tempe business owners). The determination of the informants was purposive with the criteria that the informants were considered to have the capacity related to the role of women as business actors who were able to provide information related to the tempe-making business, so the research informants were 6 people. The research data were collected through survey, interview, documentation and recording methods using an instrument in the form of an interview guide. The descriptive qualitative analysis used in this research consists of three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion or data verification. The results showed that the role of women in the business activities of tempeh production included preparation of tools and materials, washing, boiling, skinning soybeans, soaking, steaming, leavening, and packaging. The role of women is included in the active role category because women are always active in each stage of the tempeh production process. Although the main role of women is basically only in the wrapping or packaging process.

Abstract

The price of patchouli plants has fluctuated considerably from 2017 to 2022, but currently remains resilient at Rp.450,000/kg and is expected to continue increasing. This study aims to examine the types of motivation and the income of farmers who cultivate patchouli in Puunggapu Village. The population of this study includes all 20 patchouli farmers in Puunggapu Village. The study sample consisted of 20 farmers selected through the census method. Data were collected using observation, interviews, and documentation with an interview guide. Descriptive analysis was employed to determine farmers' motivation for cultivating patchouli and to calculate their income level. The study revealed that farmers in Puunggapu Village were motivated to cultivate patchouli due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Extrinsic motivation was not mentioned in the original text. Intrinsic motivation was driven by the desire to increase income, fulfill life needs, gain experience in farming, and the ease of cultivating patchouli. Extrinsic motivations for planting patchouli in Puunggapu Village include the high price of patchouli oil, the prevalence of patchouli farming among local farmers, the low maintenance required for patchouli plants, and the availability of markets to sell the resulting patchouli oil. On average, farmers in the village earn IDR 8,455,000 per growing season (6 months) from patchouli farming.
