Abstract

The goal of this research is to determine the amount of farmer motivation and ability, as well as the link between the two in patchouli crop management. The census technique was utilized in this study. The analysis of the data used is processed by a class interval expression and is a quantitative description method for finding the relationship with Spearman's rank correlation expression. The findings reveal that intrinsic motivation, or willingness from within, which comprises of wants and expectations, influences farmers' motivation to plant patchouli, whereas interest is insufficient to encourage farmers to grow patchouli. Meanwhile, extrinsic motivation consisting of family and environmental support is also not strong enough to motivate farmers to plant patchouli. The ability of farmers to plant patchouli in terms of knowledge and skills is high, although farmers are still not perfect in implementing every aspect of activities in planting patchouli. The results of the Rank Sperman correlation test show that motivation is significantly related to ability. The better the farmer's motivation, the greater his ability, and vice versa, the higher the farmer's ability and motivation.

Abstract

Since Law Number 6 of 2014 concerning villages, the Indonesian government has disbursed substantial funds directly to villages. One of the objectives of allocating these funds is to establish a village-owned enterprise (Bumdes). This study aims to evaluate these institutions. To assess the performance of the Bumdes, criteria, indicators, and verifiers were used following the regulations of the Minister for underdeveloped regions and transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia, Number 4 of 2015. Research carried out in 2019. Eighteen Bumdes were selected in 18 sub-districts as samples from the 113 Bumdes formed in the Konawe district. This study aims to see to what extent the existence of Bumdes has been able to contribute to improving the village economy. Respondents in this study were Bumdes stakeholders, starting from the district level (head of the Village Community Development Agency, Head of the Regional Development Planning Agency, and Head of Development), head of sub-districts, village heads, Bumdes Managements, and Community Leaders. The results showed that most of the Bumdes had not been able to properly compile business plans due to their administrators’ low human resource capacity. As a result, Bumdes capital is not developed and depends on only the allocation of village funds. The existence of Bumdes has not provided a real contribution to the increase in economic activity and village development as envisaged

Abstract

The local institution of mini purse seine is a rule in the mini purse seine group that regulates the cooperation between skipper and labor in catching fish in the waters of Buton strait. In 2010, the number of mini purse seine in Lagasa Village was 40 units and continued to decrease to 30 units in 2017, the number of mini purse seine 30 units. This happens because the skippers sell their fishing gear to the other party as they do not have labors that do fishing. This study aimed to assess the capacity and role of local mini purse seine institutions in fishing in Buton strait waters, Duruka district, Muna Regency. The method of analysis used in this study is descriptive qualitative analysis with the skippers and labors of mini purse seine as the main informant. The results showed that the institutional capacity affecting the sustainability of mini purse seine fishing equipment is the presence of labor. The lack of labor in mini purse seine is caused by low catches, autocratic and symbolic leadership style of the skipper, and violation of the rule of catch fish. The institutional group of mini purse seine has a role in forming cooperative groups in fishing, establishing fishing business units, and advising Lagga Village Government in solving fishing problems in Buton strait waters. Recommendations: The government of Muna regency and its associated elements should increase the institutional capacity of mini purse seine through the strengthening of mini purse seine organizations, institutionalization of values or norms, and resource management. Keywords: Mini Purse Seine; local institution; Bajo Tribe

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the influence of social capital on the performance of rice farming in Punggaluku Village, Laeya District, South Konawe Regency. The research population consists of all rice farmers in Punggaluku Village, with a total of 140 individuals. The determination of the sample size for this study was made using the Slovin formula, with a margin of error set at 10%. Therefore, the sample size was determined to be 58 respondents. The sampling method employed was a simple random sampling technique. The data presented herein was collected through a variety of research techniques, including in-depth interviews, meticulous documentation analysis, a thorough review of existing literature, and the administration of surveys. The research variables consisted of exogenous variables (social capital) and endogenous variables (farming performance). The collected data underwent a dual analytical process, comprising a preliminary descriptive statistical evaluation, followed by an inferential statistical examination. The results of the study indicate that social capital, particularly social norms and networks, is well established among the community involved in rice farming. Most farmers actively practice social norms and networks, such as attending farmer group meetings and complying with cultivation rules, as well as building strong networks through easy access to information, both from fellow farmers and external institutions. Meanwhile, the aspect of trust is considered adequate, indicating room for improvement in mutual trust among group members and extension workers. The performance of rice farming, as measured by the quantity and quality of farmers' work, has been carried out well, while timeliness remains in the adequate category. Social capital has a positive and significant impact on farming performance, as indicated by the simple linear regression coefficient (β = 1.049). Social capital, as a non-material resource comprising norms, networks, and trust, has a tangible impact on the productivity and effectiveness of farming.
