Abstract

This study aims to investigate the Interaction strategies of haggling in the ‘Pawn Stars’ and ‘The Pickers’ TV shows. The participants are those who are involved in the interaction of haggling both in the TV shows. The instruments used for data collection in this qualitative study of sociopragmatics are video camera, television and computer. The data were collected through the video camera that was used to record the TV shows in the television and then the recorded TV shows in the video camera were transferred to the computer to be transcribed and analyzed. From the data analysis it is found out that buyers and customers often employ similar haggling strategies in some respects and distinctly different tactics in many other respects. Such strategies include humor, power, pleas and honorific tags. Therefore, it is expected that there will be other researches concerning this topic which involves much more comprehensive data or there will be other researches concerning the similar topic but at the different setting or participants. Abstract

The purpose of the research was to reveal the friendship in Winston Groom’s “Forrest Gump”. The author uses a qualitative method to this research. The data collected in this research from two sources,primary sources and secondary sources. Primary sources is Groom’s Forrest Gump and secondary sources are the other books and data from internet that related to this research. Psychological approach is applied in analyzing the data to reveal the friendship in the novel. The result of this research is contribute the values of human life,especially about friendship in social interaction,respect each other,and build a good relationship in people life. Especially the friendship between Forrest and his bestfriend which shows loyalty, sacrifice and mutual understanding,because the story of the novel reflected about the human life especially about the friendship. The implication of this study is to enrich the knowledge of the writers and the readers about the main character’s friendship that in Groom's Forrest Gump. Moreover, it can be a reference for the students of English Department who are attracted to observe the similar research. Therefore, this research can conclude the novel, Forrest Gump, to show the forms of the friendship of the main character.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze woman's fight for emancipation in Jane Eyre novel by Charlotte Bronte, a novel written in the Victorian era and first published in 1847. Woman emancipation refers to woman's struggle to obtain rights that should be given in order for her potential to develop and function fully in certain aspects of life. In this study, the writers use qualitative research because the data are gathered in the form of words rather than numbers. The mimetic approach also employs in order to seek woman’s fight for a better life. There are two kinds of sources namely primary and secondary sources. The primary source is the novel itself whereas the secondary sources are from books and internet references. The result of the analysis shows Jane Eyre’s fight for woman emancipation, she has authority and freedom as a human being who is fully entitled to herself, and is able to decide the best path for herself. By using the feminism theory of Betty Friedan in The Feminine Mystique, it can be concluded that Jane Eyre is able to show her ability and become a female character who can be an excellent role model in the fight for emancipation.
