Abstract

Infanticide is a certain crime in which a mother kills her child who has just been born or shortly after birth. The US Department of Health and Human Services estimates that, of the 2,000 children killed each year in the United States, 1,100 are killed by their birth mothers. Infanticide is more often done through mechanical asphyxia, namely smothering, strangulation, entrapment, and blockage. There are about 30-40 cases of infanticide every year and 90-95% of them are cases of mechanical asphyxia. A case was reported of a newborn baby X who was taken to the Forensic and Medicolegal Installation of RSUD Dr. Moewardi, Surakarta city on October 2, 2022. The baby is female, born alive, no signs of treatment were found, and able to live outside the womb. From the autopsy examination, it was found that the body was in advanced decomposition, with bruises on the neck due to blunt violence, and from a deep examination of the inner respiratory tract, there were bruises and blood absorption in the surrounding tissue, due to blunt violence. The cause of death was blunt violence which blocked the airways, causing the victim to suffocate/asphyxia—estimated time of death from exhaustion one day before the examination.

Abstract

Hanging is a condition in which there is a constriction of the neck by a snarer caused by all or part of the body's weight. Hanging is a way of death often found in suicides and is a mechanism of death that usually occurs. In December 2022, a man was found dead who allegedly hanged himself in the Mojo Cemetery, Jebres, Surakarta. The positioning body is hanging with a black raffia rope on a teak tree branch of approximately 1 meter. During the TKP investigation, investigators found several pieces of evidence in the form of identification cards, family cards, wills, and letters of loan installments. An external post-mortem examination was carried out and found sliding abrasions and circular pressure on the neck from front to back, due to blunt force, as well as signs of asphyxia or suffocation. The exact cause of death is unknown because an internal examination was not carried out at the investigator's request. The time of death was estimated at two to eight hours before the examination.

Abstract

Background: Physical examination of victims of sexual violence is required for the preparation of a visum et repertum as evidence in trial. This review aims to discuss the role of Visum et Repertum and clinical examination of victims who have experienced sexual violence. Method: The literature search was carried out through an electronic search engine with keywords related to the purpose of the review. Discussion: Visum et Repertum is one of the pieces of evidence to reveal the incidence of sexual violence experienced by the victim. In handling cases of sexual violence, a doctor must understand his role as a medical professional to help disclose cases. Physicians must carry out the necessary clinical examinations to be able to interpret their findings into the Visum et Repertum requested by the police. Also, a physician has a role to help the patient's recovery by providing treatment so that the victim can recover from the trauma experienced by the victim due to sexual violence. Understanding the role of physicians in handling cases of sexual violence can help many parties to reveal cases of sexual violence and reduce the burden on sexual violence victims.
