Abstract

Online language class can be set in two ways whether it uses a synchronous or asynchronous system. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the teaching-learning process is conducted online. Therefore, this paper does not only provide some overviews of the teaching-learning process in online English language classes (starting from providing an overview of the choices of a class setting, the tools and the reasons for their use, the challenges in conducting online language classes, the most applicable tools to use in online language classes) but also presents ideas covering four language skills to set online language classes in the post-pandemic era lively. This study uses convergent mixed method where questionnaires, interviews, and field notes are collected at roughly the same time to provide a comprehensive analysis of the research problem. The findings show a combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning as the most suitable and effective systems to conduct online language classes. The most challenging factors of online classes are adaptation in using an online learning platform and an unstable signal. WhatsApp and Google Classroom are the most used platform by the participants. In conclusion, combining both using synchronous and asynchronous learning is better to set creative audio-visual aid to deliver the lesson.

While, the regression model of second layer is proven significant. The total contribution of all variables in the path diagram in the second layer of this study is 44.86%. Abstract

Some components of learning environment might affect learner behaviors during the teaching and learning process in both face-to-face and virtual learning environments. One of those components is students’ motivation which is the best variable that affects students’ learning. Research literature consistently suggests that EFL (English as a foreign language) students’ motivation is affected by some teaching factors (Lamb, 2017). This study aims at determining the factors that increase students’ motivation in their online courses at higher education levels. In this framework, the students who were in the fourth and sixth semesters were asked to explain their opinions about the factors increasing their motivation and what can be done to increase their motivation. The students have been having online classrooms for almost four semesters. The writer employs qualitative research as the method to conduct this study. To collect the data, an interview guide is designed. Then, the research results show that the teaching- learning process, teacher’s competency, students’ engagement, online learning environment/technical infrastructure and time management could affect students’ motivation in their online courses. Besides, it is also stated that interactive assessment and evaluation would increase their motivation.

Furthermore, the method used to describe the idea of this paper is a conceptual paper in which the writer tries to figure out how digital learning is implemented for learning. The writer used literature review from some journal articles and books written by the experts to gather the data. In conclusion, applying digital literacy must be well prepared on the way how it is used. It must relate to their competence, learning objectives, and language skills being taught. Indeed, once the students are familiar with the technology being used, they significantly improve their skills.

Trenggalek has more than 30 tourist villages that have been intensively built since 2020, including Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah. This village was chosen as one of the 300 best tourism villages in Anugerah Desa Wisata (ADWI) 2023. This year, one of the tourist villages proposed by the Trenggalek government was Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah. This tourist village has much potential for development, including cultural tourism. Cultural tourism in this tourist village can be developed into storynomics tourism. To develop storynomics tourism in Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah, the community service team from UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur then initiated and held a program called “Storytelling for Tour Guide” in Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah, Trenggalek. The program was successfully held on the 25th – 26th of June 2023 at Pendopo Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah, attended by around 35 participants. They came from diverse backgrounds, from senior high school to undergraduate level. The success was proven by the participation and involvement of the participants in the discussion sessions and the publications made. In the future, the improvement of the storytelling skills of tour guides can boost the tourism sector in the area.
