Abstract

Today, the religious expression of the urban community looks passionate. This religious passion can be seen in worship manifested in caring for others, charity (infaq, sadaqah), and a shar'i lifestyle in the public sphere. However, on the other hand, this new enthusiasm for religion has created a new awareness of religion. This article investigates the phenomenon of passionate religion in Lumajang and Jember East Java using psycho-social studies with phenomenological interpretation analysis. The result is that the new religious passion is determined by religious knowledge, practice, and experience, which are constructed gradually over time. This awareness is then dynamically reflected and embodied in a pluralistic social life. This passionate religious expression has complex psycho-social factors in Muslim society due to different social interactions, individually and in groups. This phenomenon, firstly, is triggered by an understanding of religion that is more on the aspect of theology (spiritual aspects) than a hard-and-fast understanding of religion (the formal aspect of fiqh and sharia). Second, the people are disappointed with religious figures and institutions that only teach religious doctrines, not values and substance. Third, the social community and religious education do not encourage inclusive, reflective, and critical views on social issues.

Abstract

Elementary school teachers in Kosovo demonstrate positive attitudes toward instructional media, yet their classroom implementation remains limited. Structural constraints, unequal digital infrastructure, insufficient professional development, and weak teacher retention systems hinder the effective integration of instructional media, ultimately constraining pedagogical innovation and the quality of learning in elementary education. This study examines Kosovo primary teachers’ instructional media competency needs, identifies implementation barriers, and formulates effective enhancement strategies by analyzing teacher readiness and contextual constraints in integrating digital and non-digital media into classroom practice. This study employed a descriptive qualitative design involving purposively selected primary teachers, principals, and supervisors from urban and rural schools in Kosovo. Data were collected through interviews, observations, document analysis, and focus group discussions, and analyzed thematically to ensure credibility and contextual depth. This study concludes that teacher competence in Kosovo is shaped by interconnected structural, institutional, and motivational factors rather than individual capacity alone. Limited infrastructure, insufficient professional development, teacher attrition, and weak retention systems undermine learning quality. Despite positive attitudes toward innovation, inadequate educational ecosystems hinder implementation, highlighting the need for integrated, sustainable, and context-sensitive systemic reforms. The findings imply that education improvement in Kosovo requires systemic policy reforms, including sustained professional development, teacher retention strategies, curriculum renewal, and equitable digital infrastructure, to effectively translate teachers’ positive attitudes into improved instructional practices and learning quality.

Abstract

The rapid development of globalization has brought significant changes to students’ ways of thinking and behavior, which in many cases has raised concerns about the weakening of religious values. This condition encourages schools to instill Islamic values through a living and meaningful school culture. This study aims to describe the forms of Islamic school culture, the strategies used in its implementation to foster students’ religious character, as well as the supporting and inhibiting factors at SMAN 2 Tanggul in the 2022/2023 academic year. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model with source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that Islamic culture at SMAN 2 Tanggul is reflected in the habituation of congregational and dhuha prayers, Qur’an memorization, Islamic holy day commemorations, charitable giving, courteous behavior, and teacher role modeling. The implementation of Islamic culture is carried out through school policies, consistent habituation, and persuasive and humanistic approaches, including principal-led policy-based authority strategies, persuasive strategies through religious activities, and normative-educative strategies through teacher exemplification. The implementation is supported by the active involvement of all school members, the availability of human resources and facilities, and the presence of a school mosque, while obstacles arise from the diverse backgrounds of school members and teachers’ limited capacity to address students’ substantive issues, particularly in character development.
