Abstract

This research seeks a permanent juridical solution for the pastoral problem of catholic split marriages. Many such couples need the Catholic Church's intervention to give way out of their family problem. And there is indeed a solution provided by Pope Francis with the reform of Canon Law regarding the issue of divorce and remarried couples of Catholic families. The research method is identifying and documenting what has been done in the diocese of Manado by Fr. Jan van Paassen and studying his approach to dealing with families needing help. Bibliographical research indicates the method of Fr. Jan van Paassen in dealing with the problem. It has a solid foundation and a reasonable argumentation which may be accepted by the authority of the Church based on the Calon Law itself. May this research help solve the pastoral problem of the catholic split marriage on the one hand. On the other side, the indissolubility of marriage remains the permanent teaching of the Catholic Church.

Abstract

There is a difference between consecrated people and people in general in living poverty. In the lives of those who take vows, poverty is taken knowingly and willingly as a way to imitate the life of Jesus, their teacher. Different from world poverty which is often passively accepted, the practice of poverty in consecrated life is seen as an ideal life that is inspired by the practice of Jesus' poverty. The reality of poverty in the world is generally fatalistic, where poverty is often a result of injustice, oppression, colonialism, fraud, and many other manipulative practices. On the other hand, in the vows of poverty, simplicity, and lack of self-sufficiency are deliberately chosen, so that people will not be attached to worldly possessions, both for the sake of getting closer to holiness and so that they can be in solidarity with others. In addition, the vow of poverty is also lived in order to develop the lives of the poor. The question is whether the ideal of poverty can still be lived in today. The world of technology and the advancement of various facilities have penetrated behind the monastery fence. The lifestyles of consecrated people today are also changing. Facilities in the monastery such as buildings, means of transportation, means of communication, money and other facilities appear to be better and fully available. Do all these conveniences not obscure the meaning of the vow of poverty? This article attempts to reveal the practice of living the vows of poverty among today’s young religious men/women, and from there it tries to offer appropriate forms of coaching and mentoring to assist young religious men/women in living the vows of poverty.

Abstract

This article aims to reveal several points regarding the quality of listening in building a synodal Church by learning from listening experiences among the Catholics of Manado Diocese. By using a phenomenological approach, we want to describe the experiences of Catholics in listening interactions in their lives of faith, and how people interpret that experience. The data collection was obtained in conjunction with the focus group discussion process which was carried out in this diocese ahead of the 2023 Synod of Bishops. It was found that both positive qualities and challenges can be found in various communities, lay and clergy, leaders of the people and the people they lead. By carefully appreciating these aspects in the light of Church models, the article provides strategic suggestions for reflection and pastoral action not only in Manado Diocese but also for the wider Church to build a better listening Church.

AbstractThis article presents an ecclesiological overview of the Church's responsibility in promoting vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. It employs qualitative research methods, including an analysis of Catholic Church documents, to explore the relationship between the Church's nature and its apostolic mission to nurture and support vocations to the priesthood and the monastic life. The unique contribution of this article is the assertion that vocation promotion extends beyond merely finding Church ministers; it is, in fact, an essential aspect of the process of becoming the Church itself, as vocations are intrinsically connected to the Church's identity. The research indicates that every element within the Church is responsible for identifying, guiding, and facilitating individuals who respond to God's call. The findings of this study aim to provide deeper insights into the significance of the Church's role in supporting apostolates and vocations to a holy life, ultimately offering a stronger foundation and motivation to enhance the Church's commitment to these vocations in the future.
