Abstract

This article aims to reveal several points regarding the quality of listening in building a synodal Church by learning from listening experiences among the Catholics of Manado Diocese. By using a phenomenological approach, we want to describe the experiences of Catholics in listening interactions in their lives of faith, and how people interpret that experience. The data collection was obtained in conjunction with the focus group discussion process which was carried out in this diocese ahead of the 2023 Synod of Bishops. It was found that both positive qualities and challenges can be found in various communities, lay and clergy, leaders of the people and the people they lead. By carefully appreciating these aspects in the light of Church models, the article provides strategic suggestions for reflection and pastoral action not only in Manado Diocese but also for the wider Church to build a better listening Church.

Abstract

Perubahan sosial budaya amat tergantung dari subyek. Karena itu yang paling bertanggung jawab atas perubahan-perubahan itu ialah subyek sesuai kewenangannya masing-masing.  Dalam konteks perubahan sosial dan budaya porsi kewenangan besar ada pada negara (pemerintah), karena negara telah diberikan hak oleh masyarakat untuk mengatur masyarakat (trias politica). Apabila Negara lalai melaksanakan hak yang diberikan masyarakat ini dengan baik, maka masyarakat memiliki kewenangan untuk mencabut hak itu daripadanya. Meskipun porsi kewenangan lebih besar ada pada Negara, setiap individu tetap berperan penting menentukan perubahan sosial-budaya. Bila individu-indvidu itu dapat mengkonsolidasikan diri dalam kelompok-kelompok kemasyarakatan dan membangun suatu visi bersama, maka dorongan para perubahan social dan budaya akan demikian kuat. Sekarang tinggal tergantung dari ke arah mana kelompok-kelompok itu mendrong perubahan sosial dan budaya, ke arah positif (nilai baik) atau negatif (nilai tidak baik).

Abstract

The essay deals with Word of God as source of liturgical spirituality This paper aims to discover the spirituality of the Eucharistic celebration based on a biblical-liturgical analysis of the Emmaus Story (Luke 24:13-35). If we reconstruct the Emmaus story from a liturgical perspective, specifically the Eucharistic celebration, then the structure of the Eucharistic celebration becomes very clear. The biblical-liturgical analysis of the Emmaus Story shows that the Eucharist is a spiritual journey with the Risen Lord. God's presence is sometimes not recognized because we are covered by worries, anxieties, and unfulfilled hopes. The Emmaus Story also points us to two important structures of the Eucharistic celebration: the liturgy of the Word and the liturgy of the Eucharist. In the liturgy of the Word, Christ himself speaks and opens our hearts by explaining the contents of Scripture. In the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the Risen Christ allows himself to be known through the breaking of bread. The Eucharist is not only a celebration, but is directed towards the transformation of life that enables believers to become witnesses of Jesus' resurrection.

Abstract

This paper examines the development of the concept of liturgy in the Catholic Church by analyzing the relationship between its normative and theological dimensions. Using a literature review methodology, the study traces a paradigm shift from a predominantly normative understanding of liturgy toward a more explicitly theological interpretation. The normative concept understands liturgy primarily as a set of officially regulated, communal ritual actions through which the Church offers worship to God; this perspective was formally articulated in the Codex Iuris Canonici. In contrast, the theological understanding, which emerged through the liturgical movement and was articulated authoritatively in the encyclical Mediator Dei, conceives liturgy as the salvific action of Christ carried out in and through His Church. This theological paradigm finds its conciliar expression in Sacrosanctum Concilium and is further reinforced by the apostolic letter Desiderio Desideravi, particularly through its emphasis on the celebration of the Paschal Mystery as the heart of the liturgy. The paper argues that this theological emphasis does not replace or marginalize the normative dimension. Rather, subsequent canonical legislation rearticulates theological insights within juridical formulations, integrating both interior participation and external ritual order. The study concludes that the normative and theological concepts of liturgy are not mutually exclusive but must be understood as complementary and interdependent within Catholic liturgical theology and practice.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis transformasi kepemilikan tanah masyarakat lokal serta mengkaji respons religius-ekopastoral Gereja dalam konteks perubahan sosial pedesaan di Kecamatan Dimembe, Minahasa Utara, Indonesia. Penelitian ini penting karena penyusutan kepemilikan tanah tidak hanya berdampak pada keberlanjutan ekonomi rumah tangga, tetapi juga memengaruhi struktur stratifikasi sosial, identitas kultural, dan keseimbangan ekologis masyarakat lokal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan campuran (mixed methods) dengan desain deskriptif-eksplanatif melalui observasi lapangan, wawancara mendalam, dokumentasi, dan survei terhadap masyarakat di Desa Matungkas, Laikit, Dimembe, dan Tatelu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepemilikan tanah masyarakat lokal mengalami penyusutan signifikan akibat ekspansi perumahan, pertumbuhan sektor perdagangan dan jasa, aktivitas pertambangan emas, serta tekanan kebutuhan ekonomi rumah tangga. Transformasi tersebut menggeser rezim kepemilikan dari model tenurial berbasis kerja menuju model berbasis modal, sehingga tanah beralih dari ruang hidup produktif menjadi komoditas investasi. Pergeseran ini memperlemah ketahanan ekonomi rumah tangga, mengubah pola penghidupan agraris, memperdalam stratifikasi sosial berbasis kepemilikan lahan, serta meningkatkan kerentanan sosial-ekologis wilayah peri-urban. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa penyusutan kepemilikan tanah merupakan persoalan sosial-ekologis yang menuntut respons struktural dan kultural. Oleh karena itu, pendekatan ekopastoral Gereja perlu diintegrasikan dalam strategi pemberdayaan masyarakat melalui edukasi ekologis, advokasi perlindungan tenurial, dan penguatan spiritualitas ekologis berbasis keberlanjutan. Penelitian ini menawarkan kebaruan dengan mengintegrasikan analisis sosial-agraria dan religiusitas sebagai variabel normatif-struktural dalam memahami transformasi agraria pedesaan di Indonesia.
