Abstract

This article is intended to describe the result of the research onimproving students’ vocabulary mastery by using crossword puzzles. The research design was Classroom Action Research. The research subject and area of the research, the students of class VIII-G at SMPN 1 Bangsalsari Jember were determined by using purposive method. The research data collection methods werevocabulary mastery test, observation, interview, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed by using percentage formula. The result of observations showedthat the students were categorized active students and it increased up to 79% in Cycle 2. Further, the result of vocabulary mastery test indicated that the students achieved the standard minimum score in Cycle 2. Therefore, using crossword puzzles could improve the VIII-G students' vocabulary mastery and their active participation.

Abstract

This research investigated improving the students' listening comprehension achievement by using English songs. The research design was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research area was Madrasah Ibtidaiyah which is under the auspices of the Alyasini Integrated Islamic Boarding School Foundation located in Pasuruan and the subjects of this research were Grade VIII-E students chosen purposively by using purposive method. The data were collected from interview, listening comprehension test, observation, and documentation. The results of this research showed that the results of observation showing that out of 30 students in the class, 25 students (83.33%) participated actively in the teaching-learning process by using English songs. Then, in the listening comprehension test, there was an increase from 19 students, or 63.33%, who achieved the target score before the action of the cycle to 26 students, or 86.67%, who achieved the target score after the action of the cycle model. This means that using English song could improve the students' participation and their listening comprehension achievement.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was testing whether or not Kahoot! Application has a significant effect on students’ vocabulary achievement. Thus, a quasi-experimental research design was applied. This research conducted this study on September – October 2023 and involved 68 students as the sample participants. They were divided into two groups, experimental and control groups. Those classes did vocabulary exercise that given by the researcher. Each exercise asked the students to find the English meaning of certain words. The different of those groups was the treatment. In experimental group, Kahoot! Application was used as the treatment, while the control group did the vocabulary exercises by using regular paper. After did the treatment for three times, each groups had a post-test in the form of multiple-choice. Based on the post-test result, the experimental group got a mean score of 94.65 and 90.26 for the control group. Then, the researcher used SPSS to analyze the data by employing an independent sample t-test to make a valid conclusion. The result showed that the value of Sig. 2-tailed was 0.04, which was lower than 0.05. It could be stated that there was a significant difference between the experimental and the control groups. Therefore, the Kahoot! Application can be used as teaching media for learn vocabulary.
