Abstract

Hospital waste is divided into two groups in general, namely medical waste and non-medical waste. Hospital medical waste is categorized as Hazardous and Toxic Materials (B3) waste as mentioned in Appendix I PP No. 101 of 2014 that medical waste has infectious characteristics. B3 waste can pose a danger to the environment and also an impact on the health of the community and other living things when disposed of directly into the environment. Good hospital B3 waste management is expected to minimize the impact caused. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hospital B3 waste management system at X Hospital Surabaya according to applicable regulations. The method used is a qualitative method where the data obtained comes from the results of interviews, observations, and document reviews. The results of the research on B3 waste management at RS X Surabaya have met the achievement of 95.5% based on the regulations stated in the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No. P.56 of 2015 both from the aspect of TPS Building which is in accordance with the provisions, aspects of sorting, storage has been carried out according to its characteristics, officers' knowledge of the use of PPE, waste handling and further treatment has been carried out by the 3rd party , as well as the reuse of used infusion bottles and used jerry cans has also been carried out.

Abstract

The growing population in Indonesia can be used by some people to start a laundry business. Laundry waste has several contents, one of which is Total Suspended Solids (TSS). Coagulation-flocculation is one of the processes that can reduce TSS and turbidity parameters. The coagulation-flocculation process with a stirring speed of 100 rpm and 150 rpm with watermelon seed extract biocoagulant, trembesi seed and commercial aluminium sulphate coagulant for comparison. The next stage of processing is filtration processing using rice husk charcoal, silica sand and gravel. The treatment results are then continued with turbidity measurements and TSS test results. The best treatment results in this coagulation-flocculation combination are turbidity parameters with a percentage removal of 77% watermelon seeds, 70% trembesi seeds and 93% aluminium sulphate. The best test results were obtained for TSS parameters with a percentage removal of 80% watermelon seeds, 69% trembesi seeds and 98% aluminium sulphate. The highest percentage removal in the treatment of washing liquid waste using a combined method of coagulation-flocculation and filtration at a dose of 75 ml/l and a stirring speed of 150 rpm.

Abstract

Sludge industri makanan merupakan residu hasil pengolahan air limbah yang mengandung bahan organik tinggi sehingga rentan mengalami dekomposisi anaerobik dan menghasilkan senyawa bau, terutama amonia (NH₃) dan hidrogen sulfida (H₂S) [14]. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi efektivitas adsorben alami berbiaya rendah (low-cost adsorbents), yaitu zeolit, sekam padi, dan kalsium karbonat (CaCO₃) dari cangkang kerang, baik secara tunggal maupun kombinasi, dalam menurunkan konsentrasi NH₃ dan H₂S pada sludge industri makanan. Pengujian dilakukan secara batch dengan rasio adsorben terhadap sludge 1:3 (perlakuan tunggal) dan 1:1:3 (perlakuan kombinasi) pada variasi waktu kontak 12, 24, dan 48 jam. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa jenis adsorben berpengaruh signifikan terhadap penurunan konsentrasi NH₃ maupun H₂S. Kombinasi CaCO₃ dan sekam padi (1:1:3) memberikan rata-rata penurunan NH₃ tertinggi sebesar 82,1%, sementara sekam padi tunggal (1:3) memberikan rata-rata penurunan H₂S tertinggi sebesar 96,3%. Mekanisme adsorpsi yang teridentifikasi merupakan gabungan dari fisisorpsi oleh zeolit melalui pertukaran ion NH₄⁺, kemisorpsi oleh CaCO₃ melalui penyangga pH, serta perbaikan porositas media oleh sekam padi. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi adsorben alami berpotensi menjadi alternatif deodorisasi sludge industri makanan yang efektif dan ekonomis.
