Abstract

The issue of social loafing can significantly reduce productivity within student organizations, including the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) at Muhammadiyah University Sidoarjo. This study examines the relationship between organizational commitment and social loafing among IMM members, addressing a knowledge gap in understanding the extent of this relationship within Islamic student organizations. Using a quantitative correlational approach, the study surveyed 162 out of 400 IMM members, utilizing non-probability accidental sampling based on Isaac and Michael's table with a 10% error rate. The hypothesis posited a negative relationship between organizational commitment and social loafing. Data analysis was conducted using Spearman rank correlation with SPSS 20.0. Findings indicate a negative correlation (r = -0.107, p = 0.001), suggesting that higher organizational commitment is associated with lower social loafing among IMM members, with organizational commitment accounting for 7.4% of the variation in social loafing. This study’s novelty lies in its focus on the interplay between commitment and social behavior within a specific Islamic student organization. The implications of these findings underscore the importance of fostering strong organizational commitment to minimize social loafing and enhance group productivity. Further research could explore additional factors influencing social loafing in similar contexts. Highlights: Higher organizational commitment correlates with reduced social loafing among IMM members. Organizational commitment accounts for 7.4% of the variation in social loafing. Study fills a knowledge gap within Islamic student organizations' behavioral dynamics. Keywords: Organizational Commitment, Social Loafing, Student Organization, Muhammadiyah, Quantitative Study

Abstract

Background: In an online learning environment, consumer trust is crucial for helping consumers understand perceptions of risk and repercussion. Objective: to determine the relationship between consumer trust and consumptive behavior of students. Method: This research uses a correlational quantitative approach that aims to determine the relationship between two or more variables. The sampling method in this study used a random sampling approach, with a total sample size of around 241 students consisting of 34 men and 207 women. Results: According to the findings, the majority of students had moderate levels of consumer trust (59.8%) and consumptive behavior (80.9%). A coefficient value of 0.426 indicates a reasonably significant correlation between the two variables in the data analysis test. There is 0.000 p-value between student’s consumer trust and consumptive behavior, with an alpha of 5%, we can conclude that the correlation between the two variables is significant since 0.000>0.05, Conclusion: According to the findings, the likelihood of engaging in consumptive behavior when shopping online increases with consumer trust.

Abstract

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study is to examine the influence of social media dependency and academic achievement on learning motivation among students at Al-Islam High School. Method: The variables in this study include social media dependency and academic achievement as independent variables (X) and learning motivation as the dependent variable (Y). The researcher employed a quantitative research design using multiple regression analysis, with a sample of 289 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. The research instruments included adapted scales using the Likert model for learning motivation, online game addiction, and emotion regulation. The learning motivation scale was adapted from the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.840. The social media dependency scale was adapted from the Internet Addiction Scale (IAS) with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.862, and the academic achievement scale was adapted from the Learning Achievement Scale (LAS) with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability of 0.882. Results: The results of the data analysis using multiple linear regression showed that the variables of social media dependency and academic achievement simultaneously have a significant effect on learning motivation, contributing 30.2% to the variance. Partial analysis indicated that social media dependency has a significant impact on learning motivation with a β value of -0.466 (p < .001), contributing 24.7% to the variance, while academic achievement also has a significant impact on learning motivation with a β value of 0.154 (p < .001), contributing 5.4% to the variance, indicating that social media dependency has a larger effect on learning motivation. Novelty: This study highlights the greater negative impact of social media dependency compared to academic achievement on students' learning motivation, providing new insights into the prioritization of intervention efforts in educational settings.
