Abstract

Abstract: This article departs from the declaration of the global ethos, which was declared by the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago, in 1993. It expresses the belief that many people can agree with the principles and values stated in it. After that the question is raised how this ethos can be implemented. To answer this question, the article follows the suggestion of Hans Küng, the initiator of the global ethos, that every religion should investigate its traditions, in order to find a deeper understanding of these values and the motivations that can help to develop attitudes that support these values. So in this article a description is made of the Christian tradition, of God’s law and the essence of sin as a force and as human action. Then the whole history of salvation is described as an attempt from God to introduce himself with His true face as God who wants humans to have life in all the abundance, which therefore can be trusted as the basis and guarantor of human life and existence. Finally follows the conclusion that this truth about God needs to be proclaimed by the Christian Church, so that in response to God’s actions and works, humans can become able to let go selfishness and compulsion to seek as much wealth and power for themselves as possible. So people can become capable of practicing the values as stated in the declaration of the global ethos. Keywords: global ethos, parliament of world religions, God’s law, core power of sin, Paul’s theology, justification, covenant theology.

Abstract

This study aims to examine differences in readiness for change based on ethnic background among communities in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Readiness for change is a psychological condition that reflects individuals’ cognitive and emotional acceptance of change, as well as their willingness to engage in change processes. A quantitative approach was employed, involving 67 respondents from seven ethnic groups, namely Manggarai, Nagekeo, Ngada, East Flores, Ende, Lembata, and Sikka, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Readiness for Change Scale developed by Armenakis and Harris. Statistical analyses included normality testing, homogeneity testing, one-way ANOVAs, and mean comparisons across ethnic groups. The results revealed a significant difference in readiness for change based on ethnicity (p < 0.05). The Manggarai, Ngada, and East Flores ethnic groups showed the highest levels of readiness for change, while the Maumere and Lembata groups exhibited the lowest scores. These differences are influenced by variations in cultural values, openness to social interaction, and acculturation orientations. The findings highlight that ethnicity plays an important role in shaping individuals’ attitudes toward change. This study contributes to cultural psychology by emphasizing the importance of culturally sensitive approaches in change management and social development programs. Abstract

Although wounded inner child is known to influence personality development and emotional regulation, empirical studies examining its relationship with future orientation within religious formation contexts, especially among Catholic seminarians in Indonesia, remain limited. This study examines this relationship. This research employed a quantitative non-experimental correlational design. Participants were 103 seminarians aged 17–24 years, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Wounded Inner Child Scale and the Future Orientation Scale developed by Azmi (2023). Because the assumption of linearity was not met (p = 0.339), Spearman Rank correlation was applied. The findings revealed a strong and significant positive correlation between wounded inner child and future orientation (r = 0.771; p = 0.029), indicating that higher levels of childhood emotional wounds were associated with higher levels of future orientation among seminarians. The results indicate that childhood emotional wounds, when processed within structured religious formation, may contribute to deeper vocational clarity and strengthened future orientation, suggesting that early emotional struggles can become meaningful resources in vocational development.
