Abstract

This research that has been conducted entitled "The Use of Code-Switching By Teacher In Classroom Interaction At MAN 2 Model Medan" which is motivated by the fact that there are differences in abilities between teachers and students in using and understanding English so make the teacher adjust the language gap so that code-switching occurs between students and teachers in classroom interaction. Code-switching is a communication between people use two or more language. The research methodology in this study use a qualitative method where the data collected by the researcher was by triangulation method that are observation, documentation and interview the teacher. The results obtained by the researcher are three types of code-switching used by teachers in classroom interaction, those are tag switching, inter-sentential switching, and intra-sentential switching. Based on those three types, the dominant types that are most often used by the teacher is inter-sentential switching. The teacher use code switching because of talking about particular topic, quoting somebody else, showing empathy, interjection, repetition, expressing group identity, and to clarify about the content. Based on the finding of the research, it can be concluded that code-switching can be used by teacher in classroom interaction because code-switching as the solution of the language gap between teacher and student.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas peran mahasiswa dalam program Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) di Desa Bangun Purba, Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Provinsi Sumatera Utara, Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk mengungkap peran mahasiswa KKN dalam pengembangan pendidikan di desa tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap dan menganalisis peran mahasiswa KKN dalam pembangunan pendidikan di Desa Bangun Purba serta dampak positif yang dihasilkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa KKN Kelompok 139 UINSU memiliki peran yang signifikan dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan di Desa Bangun Purba. Mereka terlibat dalam pelatihan guru, program ekstrakurikuler, dan pengembangan kurikulum yang relevan. Dampak positif juga terlihat pada motivasi belajar siswa. Meskipun ada tantangan dalam implementasi program KKN, kolaborasi antara mahasiswa, pemerintah, dan masyarakat desa penting dalam upaya pembangunan desa. Peran mahasiswa KKN mencerminkan relevansi dalam konteks pembangunan desa dan berperan dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat setempat. Saran utama adalah meningkatkan persiapan mahasiswa sebelum program KKN, memperkuat kerjasama antara berbagai pihak, dan meningkatkan infrastruktur pendidikan di desa terpencil.

Abstract

Observation is a process of systematic observation of human activities and physical settings where these activities take place continuously from a natural locus of activity to produce facts. This research uses a qualitative approach to describe and explain the choice of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) pre-teacher observation method. Through interviews with 10 pre-teaching students, the results show a variety of views regarding observation methods. In general, participant observation dominates as the method that is considered the most effective, because it provides an in-depth understanding of social interactions and group dynamics. Although structural and audio-visual observations receive support, direct involvement in classroom activities is considered to provide a more comprehensive understanding. The research results provide valuable insights for English language education practitioners. In conclusion, participant observation is the most relevant method for EFL pre-teaching analysis. Research supports the selection of observation methods that are appropriate to the context and research objectives to ensure the validity and relevance of observation results. Suggestions for further research include considering more specific observation methods, addressing the potential influence of observers in participant observation, and developing more contextual measurement instruments.

Abstract

In the era of revolution 4.0, technology plays an important role in every human life. It seems that in the world of education, technology has had quite a big impact on technological development, both negative and positive impacts. One of the positive impacts of technological developments in the education sector is that students and teachers can access information whenever and wherever they are. Apart from that, the use of technology can also be utilized in the teaching and learning process. Therefore, teachers are expected to be able to provide active and interactive learning using interesting and fun media such as PowerPoint, YouTube, and other media. One application that can be used is the Quizizz application. Quizizz is a web tool that contains interactive quizzes that are suitable for distance learning and face-to-face learning. The purpose of this research is to see an overview or explanation regarding the application of the Quizizz application in the classroom. This research uses descriptive qualitative research methods with several blood collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this research show that Quizizz has a quite good impact on classroom learning. This can be seen from the evaluation results of students who obtained an average score above the cut mark. So it can be concluded that the Quizizz media is very suitable and effective for use as an evaluation medium for both face-to-face and distance learning because it is not limited by space and time, making it easier for students and teachers.

Abstract

The phenomenon demonstrates how traditional practices are making it difficult for Indonesian junior high students to speak English. Following its release, the Word Box app garnered praise for its interactive features and pronunciation, which boosted students' vocabulary and self-esteem. However, problems with internet access and a lack of conversational practice surfaced, suggesting that the software works well as an additional tool that has to be integrated with large programs. The purpose of this study was to investigate the viewpoints of junior high school students about using the Word Box application to improve their English speaking abilities, paying particular attention to usability, efficacy, perceived advantages and difficulties, and how student views affect participation in speaking exercises. Purposive sampling was used to select 28 junior high school students as participants in a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 12 students providing detailed responses and questionnaires distributed a total of 28 student via Google Forms. Thematic analysis based on Braun and Clarke's (2006) framework was used to analyze the data. Students' perspective of the Word Box application's usefulness and efficiency were largely favorable. Important results showed that 92.86% of users thought the program enhanced their ability to speak English, and 82.14% of participants thought the application's accessibility and user interface were good. The contextual examples, interactive video/film clip system, and audio pronunciation feature were really appreciated by the students 92.86%. Therefore, this study comes to the conclusion that Word Box applications might be taken into consideration as well as well-targerted utilization tactics.

Abstract

Menyimak akademik masih menjadi tantangan utama bagi mahasiswa EFL (English as a Foreign Language) di perguruan tinggi karena terbatasnya paparan terhadap bahasa Inggris lisan yang autentik serta rendahnya keterlibatan dalam aktivitas menyimak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji efektivitas lagu berbahasa Inggris dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menyimak akademik, dengan fokus khusus pada mahasiswa tingkat universitas di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuasi-eksperimental berbasis kelas dengan pre-test dan post-test yang melibatkan 26 mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris di UIN Sumatera Utara. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan dua instrumen: (1) tes pemahaman lirik yang terdiri dari 20 soal untuk menilai kemampuan mahasiswa dalam mengidentifikasi ide pokok, informasi spesifik, dan kosakata dalam konteks, serta (2) rubrik penilaian performa bernyanyi yang mengukur pelafalan, intonasi, kelancaran, dan pemahaman isi. Setelah empat sesi pembelajaran berbasis lagu, hasil menunjukkan peningkatan nilai rata-rata dari 74,6 (pre-test) menjadi 94,2 (post-test), yang mengindikasikan adanya peningkatan kemampuan menyimak mahasiswa. Namun, temuan ini diinterpretasikan secara deskriptif tanpa pengujian statistik inferensial. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi terhadap literatur yang ada dengan memfokuskan pada menyimak akademik di tingkat perguruan tinggi, yang masih jarang mendapat perhatian dibandingkan dengan menyimak umum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lagu berbahasa Inggris dapat menjadi media yang mendukung untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan dan pemahaman menyimak dalam kelas EFL.

Abstract

This type of research is descriptive qualitative, with the aim of finding out the implementation of the independent curriculum at SD Negeri 067090 Medan, as well as the problems of English teachers in implementing the independent curriculum at SD Negeri 067090 Medan. Data collection techniques were carried out using interview, observation and documentation methods. The independent curriculum is an update that is motivated by increasingly advanced technology nowadays, and is also prepared as a strategy to mitigate the learning crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Apart from that, this curriculum also aims to provide freedom to both institutions and teachers in developing and managing curriculum and learning that is adapted to the characteristics of the educational unit and students so that they can explore their talents. Many schools have started implementing the independent curriculum in this new academic year. Therefore, various elements of education are required to adapt to this. From the research results, it can be seen that the problem of English teachers at SD Negeri 067090 Medan, namely that English teachers still do not understand the concept of an independent curriculum, teachers are faced with obstacles in creating teaching and planning modules, learning planning, namely when analyzing learning outcomes, preparing the flow. learning objectives that are adjusted to students' abilities, 3) solutions carried out by Islamic religious education teachers to overcome problems in the independent curriculum, namely English teachers taking part in in-house training and training held by the school and education department, attending KKG meetings held once a month very.

Abstract

The integration of digital technology in education has become a global phenomenon that is changing the paradigm of learning in the 21st century. In Indonesia, the adoption of mobile learning applications such as Hablo App shows an increasing trend in line with the national digital literacy agenda. Teachers, as the main implementers, face a dilemma between the transformative potential of technology and the reality of technical and pedagogical constraints in the field. This study used an exploratory qualitative case study design with a purposive sampling approach involving two teachers who had implemented the Hablo App. Data collection involved observation and interviews was administered to gather specific data about usage patterns, satisfaction levels, and technical difficulties. This study emphasizes the expectations and challenges of teachers regarding the use of the Hablo App in classroom. These findings hold significant implications for educational app developers, language educators, and policymakers aiming to optimize digital learning.
